I am almost fully sleeved on both arms with hair long enough to set on. My beard is coming along nicely as well. But I wear long sleeve pearl snap shirts everywhere I go. My hair is always in a ponytail, and my beard is groomed. If you see me coming it's obvious that I'm not a slob or degenerate.

I took my daughter to get her first tattoo on her 18'th birthday. I told her I'd pay for it as long as it could be covered with normal clothing.

I didn't get my tattoos to show off to people. I got them for myself and my family. If I owned a company and someone showed up with face, hand, or neck tattoos I wouldn't even give them the time of day.

I’m looking for a baby sitter for my elderly mom. I’m thinking about hiring someone covered in home made prison tats. The tear drop under the eye shows care and love. The gang signs show loyalty and dedication. Three things I am looking for.

Same here. I had this look all my life.

Then after high school the job hunt started and I had all kinds of trouble. I couldn’t bring myself to give up my identity. Fortunately the construction trades didn’t care about such trivialities and neither does the current outfit.

Keri spent the day with me yesterday. We did not speak about this issue, but the thread topic reminded me of something we had discussed. A man named Juan Trippe. He was part of the founding of Pan Am and was very instrumental in the creation of the Boeing 747. Keri told me of speaking to some of the old Flight Attendants who worked for him. Back then, they were called a Stewardess. I can't find an easy link to that airline's old dress code, but let's just say those girls had regular weigh-ins. Keri told me about a lady who worked for Pam Am decades ago. Said she almost lost her job over a tat.

99% of the time when Keri is working, she is the cabin boss. She is the only member of the cabin crew allowed up front. Keri has no tats, wears NO facial jewelry. Only a set of earbuds. When Keri has an FA who works for her and she notices a sleeve tat, she will tell that person to make sure they keep it covered. If not, she has to notify the company. They mean the below.

These are the general guidelines for appearance and grooming at American Airlines:

    • Uniforms should be clean and free of wrinkles or creases.
    • Jewelry must be gold or silver and must be worn sparingly.
    • Earrings must match and only one per ear is permitted. Men are allowed to wear a single stud.
    • Eyeglasses must compliment the uniform and appear professional.
    • Tattoos must not be visible while in uniform.
    • Hair must be a natural color.
    • Hair longer than shoulder length must be secured up at all times.
    • If painted all fingernails must match and must be a professional shade.

mullets weren't around in the mid 70's. lol

but, yeah, concrete work and construction laborer didn't matter what I looked like.

when I got a job in a factory in middle management, it was "suggested" I clean up my appearance. lol

then came trucking and back to jeans and longish hair. YAY!!

Sounds like discrimination to me... What happened to judging people based on their character.

I've started to notice that fewer and fewer of us blue collar, working class folk are tattooed. However it seems like more and more white collar, office types are.

Myself I just don't see the point in tattoos. I'd much rather get a nice painting and hang it on my wall where I can see it, rather than have it inked on me where I can't see it. Just my own preference I guess.

Remember in the early 2000’s all the younger white people getting the “tribal” tattoos around necks or biceps? Then from there it went to getting the nazi concentration camp type number id’s or names on the wrist’s. Yeah thats not a self esteem or mental issue

    Concorde Thanks this.
