    Yea , and the one I now work for is worse then the one that sold . Lol that's normally how it works tho.
    they all have their own version of the lies they tell as well .
    that idle thing kills me . Lol
    " oh but you'll get 59 extra if you idle less "
    lol. Nope I am good you keep your 59 dollar and I will just idle the #### out of this thing .

    Like I said no disrespect , I was just trying to kinda clarify why its a good idea , but yea if they really wanted to get you home you would be there .

    It would make a difference because getting home is not a issue when you drive local. I was merely stating i admire you guys for being able to deal with the issues that come along with doing OTR {Like not getting getting home when needed}

    I'd say pretty much everything. OTR means running all 48 states and possibly into Canada. By definition you can be thousands of miles and days away from home at best. Local can mean you are bringing a day cab to a terminal and going home every day.

    Regarding the issue of faulting companies for not getting a trucker home on the day he/she requested, I'd say that it may be a shock to some, but trucking companies don't actually control what freight is shipped where or when. Customers do. A planner can't just pull a load out of their behind at the drop of a hat (pardon the pun). :D

    Sure, for a trucker that lives in a major hub like Indianapolis it is much more likely that you can get a load home than for someone living in East Bumfuque. The bottom line is that a customer somewhere has placed an order with a supplier and given that load to your company.

    I've driven OTR going on 5 years now, one recent year. The bottom line for any OTR driver is that when you make a home time request you can't expect to be home on the day you requested. You may get home a few days early or a few days late. Learn to live with it. If I have to be home on a certain date I always request to be home a few days before that.

    One thing from a planner's point of view, depending on the company, is that once you put in a home time request you may find that suddenly you aren't getting those long hauls anymore. You may be puddle jumping as the planners are trying to map out a way to bring you home. Last time that happened to me I called my dispatcher and let them know I needed more miles before coming home so I would have a decent paycheck, then it freed up the planners to "go against" company policy and actually give me a couple of 1000 mile loads before bringing me in.

    Good communication with your dispatcher (aka Driver Leader or Driver Manager or whatever euphemism du jour is being used at your company) is key.
