First off, you're right. I didn't pay for my school. I sucked it up, served in the military, and used my benefits for training. Second, you aren't the only poor soul out there that has been sucked dry. Divorce is a financial killer. Lastly, there are more than enough decent companies that will pay for training. Why settle for one of the less reputable ones? No, I have never driven for them, but you'd have to be blind not to see the type of company they are. I've talked to enough Swift van and skateboard drivers to hear the complaints repeated over and over and over again. Oh, and if you don't want your sleeper knocked on, I suggest you don't follow the examples of your peers and block other people in. It's not Crete, Roehl, PAM, or USXpress that I see when I open my curtains; it's Swift.

What I find funny, is that, working at a truck stop for the past two weeks, I have run into several Swift drivers. They have experience with them ranging from 3 years to 15 years. The latter being an O/O. I ask them how they like it, etc. And nobody has said "oh they suck, they are the worst company, they treat me like crap, they dont know my name, they have such junk equipment, i dont get miles...." (did i miss any???)
They all sound happy, and more than willing to answer any questions I might have. If they wern't happy, i wouldnt expect them to come right out and say "i'm not happy". I would expect them to say "I'd look elsewhere for your training." They don't.
Like i've said before, i have looked around, applied online, made phone calls, and the ONLY one to offer me a seat in class is Swift. But just because you see one jerkoff of a driver, dont mean they are all that way. Swift has more units, thus need more drivers, the only way they can get a driver behind the wheel is to run a "mill". Just like in any profession, a majority of those know what they are doing, well educated, etc. You will always find a few bad apples. Why do you think cops get such a raw deal, and we all have been taught to 'hate the cops' ??? because it has been taught to us to do so because of those few 'bad apples' always tend to be remembered more than the good ones. I have several friends who are in law enforcement. Even have gone on 'ride alongs' with them. They can be "richards", or they can be the nicest guy that driver runs into that day. You have seen some real "swifty" moves from Swift drivers, so you automaticly think they all suck. Hate to tell you this, and wake you up from your slumber..........but they aren't all bad.InMyDreams, cat 500 and CANGST Thank this. -
Don't say you were not warned.LostBoy, Dr. Venture and Brickman Thank this. -
This entire thread reminds me of the Bill Envall voice over
Or I think it was Bill, its a clip from a comedy CD that I had.
That clip keeps running thru my head over and over and over every time I read a post from one of the Swift cheer leading crowd.tuckerndfw Thanks this. -
Not every driver for swift sucks, neither is every driver unhappy.

I worked for Swift in the flatbed side. It was not gravy every day, but what company is. They were not too bad. You have to get your start somewhere. Most of the "Good" companies will not touch a new driver. And what company is "Good" anyway. I have yet to find a company on here that does not have someone say something negative about them. I think that attitude is everything. Also, Swift is going to get a lot of bad mouthing because it hires people that have never been truck drivers. Driving is not for everyone. I am not defending Swift, they leave a lot to be desired but, so do all the other companies that hire newbies. Suck it up and do your time as a Swifty then look for greener pastures.

wow i paid for my own schooling.
my mother makes on average 223,000 a year. i have never borrowed money from her. ever. she got where she is by hard work and determination.
the reason were telling you not to do it, is because one, the two of us are still relatively new. we KNOW exactly what the first year is going to bring you because we JUST went through it.
you wanna go to swift go, wish you the best of luck.
make sure they teach you to shift that automatic real well. oh wait.
so when you quit you can go work for one of the top of the line companies that run automatic trannies. oh wait.
oh and my little brother is wasting his time in the military right now so we can all sit around and talk on the interwebs about how great swift is.
get bent.Dr. Venture Thanks this. -
Is Swift running automatics? The did not have any when I worked there a couple of years ago. So maybe it would be beneficial for people to list the companies they suggest instead of tearing down companies they have never worked for.
InMyDreams Thanks this.
