Not owing anyone for your cdl is half of the battle. I'm not sure of your situation, but my first driving gig once I got my cdl was a local job. You could always consider going that route pulling buckets or what have you. Just a thought. Welcome to the forum and good luck!

I can appreciate that. It would be great to 'not owe anybody', but my situation is somewhat different. I cannot afford to wait around for 2-3 months waiting for a company to hire me to drive a dump truck (or something) and get me a CDL. Besides, i will still have to go thru training program at whatever OTR company anyways. I am looking into WIA and whatever else can help me out. But also not going to wait 1-2 mo. to get approved. I just want to get into class, get into a trainers truck, start REALLY learning on the road. I dont care if it is with Swift or whoever else. Because I wont be there after 2 years. I've got someone who has told me if i have two years experience with no preventable accidents, and a clean record....they'd get me in hauling cars OTR. I know that is where the better money is at.

Just to be clear on this, I paid for my own cdl and training. Then I got the job. Anyway, I was responding to stlironguy.

There is a Schnieder terminal 15 minutes from my house and I drive by it every morning on my way to the pit. The place is constantly buzzing with activity and the trucks are always rolling through town here, so I would say that they are certainly staying busy.

This is where you need to care. Some outfits will ding your DAC even if you never did anything. Some will ding you because you quit. So much for the clean record...:biggrin_2554:

Where do you get this 24cpm ####? Have you been to the web site of the company you're about to work for? It PLAINLY says that you start at 26cpm (like this is so much better) and progress at a 1cpm rate every 3 mos for the first year.

    Speaking of misinformation...
