and that's not even to mention your fuel. first of all you have to be able to get fuel for $4/gallon which can be tough in parts of the country now. But even if you can, then to get 0.53/mile fuel cost you would have to be getting 7.55 mpg. If you are that is lucky for you, but you are still crazy to haul for 1.61. Most people can't get over 6.5 with a flat which would be 0.62/mile on $4/gal fuel. That extra 0.07 cpm should be going into your pocket for a lucky truck, your next one may not be so lucky.

Ah....This reminds of the driver who bragged all of his loads were better than $3/m......

I kept pushing for specifics.....He finally admitted that his loads never went over 150 miles......

And he had to DH back home.....

Yep....Smoke is blown everywhere here until the wind comes in and clears it away.....

I use quick books it has a place for everything and is up dated weekly. Fuel is tracked every tank. I haul parts for an oil derrick manufactor to the metroplex. Its a challenge every week to get good return loads back to Va - NC I have 1 leased O/O to help with this account.

no, no, noooo ! per diem does not DO your meals and hotels. You still have to pay for those things, it just means you don't have to pay tax on that portion of your income.

you think a penny a mile gonna cover everything else, and your tolls are "minimum", huh ? I doubt you are even getting that kind of fuel mileage, you sure you didn't lose a few fuel reciepts ?

your parts and repairs barely covers tires and pm's, let alone tools, washes and supplies !! and you still are figuring 0.00 for depreciation/replacement costs. Or you have the truck, trailer, chains, binders, tarps, boxes that last forever package ?? get out of here, you're way off.

Your fixed cost shouldn't be put against miles but against time (months). Your concept is good, but you should be reducing the variable costs of fuel and maintenance associated with increased miles as much as possible.

So your $8829 should really be about $735 per month. Add in a livable wage for yourself as well, brings it back up to around $3700 per month Work only 19 days a month, Means you need to earn $200 per day. Which is still low. I see needing at least $290 per day plus fuel/maintenance at 87 CPM. Anything more than that and it becomes PROFIT.

And then you don't have to drive 120K annually to make ends meet. Which means MORE home time. You know what home time is don't you? The reason you BOUGHT a truck and not a company driver.

I drove 6000 in March compared to 9200 miles in January. Saving me $2400 in fuel / Maintenance expense. Yet I made $400 MORE profit in March than January.

I had MORE time at home in March than I did in January by over a week as well.
