I dont get it

    Greed is behind alot of this. They want the freight moved at the cheapest driver pay they can get. It maximizes the corporate profit and allows for larger pay and bonuses.

    The damages are charged to the insurance company. They keep a higher deductible and barely fix a truck to keep it legal. This allows them to try and control the costs. It is one of the reasons alot of insurance companies are getting involved in the hiring process.

    In the event the claims get too high, they mostly self insure with a greater deductible to reduce the costs.

    As far as Roehl saying that they will get you home, MAYBE If the freight is going that way. Family works for them. You have to be willing to stay out for many weeks at a time or you will not make it as a new person in this work. they will not start you off with home time all the time. even truckers with 10 years ex. are not getting home all the time. I am Very lucky. I live in my Route so I get home and still drive long haul. Home every weekend for resets most of the time, and sometimes a couple if nights per week. But that is rare for most people, and I don't get as much per mile with the small Co. I am with, but No Qualcom, and noone on my back every day. I get my load and go. I get a load back and bring it back. get my next load and go. and over and over it goes. They don't ask questions and I don't offer anything. Miles in this slow time are still over 3000 per week nearly every week.

    I agree with the should have stayed in the military comment.I would have about 2 yrs left until retirement but instead I decided to drive a truck like my grandfather,father,and uncle have always done.Well I have not one day towards a retirement with any company, my miles are slowly dwindling away and I just lost my dedicated run if it wasn't for my 401k I would be really depressed oh wait a minute it's lost about 30%this year.:biggrin_25510:

    we can talk about this for hours,weeks and years...you nailed it....

    the al mighty buck.....

    I keep preaching about the marketing of new drivers which means cheaper freight being hauled...

    ALL THIS IS ,IS A MASS MARKETING SCEME TO CREATE CHEAP LABOR...THATS IT IN A NUT SHELL.....

    LINE THE POCKETS OF THE GOVERNMENT,CORPORATE PIGS,STATES AND FEDS....AND BIG BUSINESS.......

    I would love to hope to hear a news line of this.....

    corpoate trucking companies cutting ceo jobs..
    d.o.t. closing weigh stations to cut costs.
    governments closing doors and making cuts across board..
    etc
    etc
    etc

    not in are liftime....market more drivers and give them a nickel a mile to haul the freight...

    dont worry we have many replacements ready and willing to live at there mom and dad's house at age 50 and drive for a nickel a mile..lmao

    A friend of mine from my home town went with Swift, He told me today that he gets 29 cents per mile after 6 months with them. He pays for a large hunk of his health ins. and he only gets paid for miles as the Bird flies,
    I don't expect that he is leading me on much, but he stated that he gets trips that are 500 miles or less and loses 60 to 100 miles per trip in pay. I can't see how people could make it at that rate! plus he is also out 3 weeks plus at a time.

    Well ive been with swift for six months now, started out with them running midwest regional making .35 cpm. They pay mover miles so yeah you always run more than your paid, but isnt that with every company? I know it was the same with Schneider when I was with them. Being I run midwest regional all of my runs are between 200 to 800 mile runs which isnt bad because I get home every seven to eight days. Sometimes ill stay out for two weeks if I want to be home on a certain day or weekend or something. Theyve been really good to me so far no complaints, except for them complaining about idle time but I dont care about that. If its cold or hot im gonna idle and be comfortable, because they dont have to live in the truck I do.

    I would guess that the article would read " DOT opening more 24/7/365 weigh/inspection stations in order to improve safety and keep dangerous trucks off the road."

    Translation = More full time inspection stations will be opened to increase revenue to the state.
