Everyday, can't stress this enough, EVERYDAY I see truckers texting, watching videos, eating a huge burger, left foot up on the dashboard, etc all while zooming down the hwy at 80 mph. Yeah. Cameras will eventually be mandatory, just wait.
I don't understand why or how

you ain't gonna put up much of a fight, if in the near future ALL insurance carriers demand cameras.
as there will not be a carrier out there that will not be demanding cameras be installed, or your insurance gets cancelled ASAP. .
it'll be hard to continue business as usual, as i don't believe you would have the resources to be self insured, like a mega carrier.......and even they (many of them) have cameras now.
you just won't have any debates on the subject.NavigatorWife and CorsairFanboy Thank this. -
And where did I say that I'd put up a fight? Lol, I'm not that desperate to put up or shut up. If and when the day comes, I'll be happy to walk away. At 39 years old, that's the least of my worries. You need to understand that trucking isn't the be all and end all, life is full of people who have reinvented themselves. If I don't want to roll down the highway with a camera in my face, I won't. Simple as that..TokyoJoe, shogun and CorsairFanboy Thank this.

I've turned down several job in my recent job search because of driver facing cameras. I simply won't work for a company that uses them. You can point one out the window all you want but I don't want one in the cab.
That being said I have other qualifications too. For instance I won't work for a company that doesn't care about my comfort. No Apu? Then I better be able to idle. If not you can find a different driver. Can't bring my 91 pound dog with me? Then I won't drive for you. I demand all of that and also top pay. You won't see me working a job that pays less than 1200 a week. I'll quit the industry before that. Oh yeah and fuel solution routing? You can shove that too.
It's a driver's market. You have options.TokyoJoe, Gearjammin' Penguin, NavigatorWife and 3 others Thank this. -
the "24/7 watching you" is actually false. the capacity is there ,but most companies pay a 3rd party to go through the footage that is generated by a trigger movement of the truck.
those triggers are set up by the company and are paid on a basis of how many are to be observed. you can tell when you are actively being recorded, a light comes on. it records a set amount of seconds prior and after an trigger goes off.
triggers are like; hard brake, sharp cornering, ect.
I worked for a small company for quite a few yrs before some knuckleheads did stupid crap and the ins suggested them. front and driver.
after awhile I got called and asked if I had somebody in the truck as I talked all day.lol. well , i told them I was talking the camera, if it went off I went to cussing and explaining how that idiot four wheeler tried to commit suicide by truck.
never bothered after that. I had over 20 yrs prior to that. it might have helped.D.Tibbitt, NavigatorWife and tarmadilo Thank this. -
Me too! I found what i thought was a great match, i saved that camera question for last.. and they did. So ill exhaust my options before going with camera.
I will try to avoid it as long as i can.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Well.....
I'll agree partially on this.
I think it MAY come down to insurance demanding cameras....but I believe it will be forced upon accident prone carriers big and small.
I personally will never use one,nor will many old school largecars.....
We take pride in safety, and our efforts shouldn't be distilled by cameras.
I think beginners and megas for sure, should have them if they chooseNavigatorWife, buddyd157 and Linte_Loco Thank this. -
That's the right attitude driver! Never settle for less, in life as well as at work. Even if it wasn't a drivers market. Don't understand this mentality of accepting whatever is shoved down your throat.Gearjammin' Penguin and CorsairFanboy Thank this.

Your right I won't. I'll just quit, fly to the Philippines, grab a cold bottle of Red Horse, sit in a comfortable chair on the patio and watch the world go by.TokyoJoe Thanks this.

Did you're feelings get hurt? I ain't a psycho therapist but if you need to talk someone I can find you someone. You're right about the one thing. The industry can't get enough of me, but its sure had a enough of you......buddyd157 Thanks this.
