Like the man said, the only fail is if you quit.

In the years to come you'll make lots of mistakes. Lord knows I've made some doozies.:biggrin_2559: The first step is learning to forgive yourself for them. The next is learning from them so you don't repeat them. From there on it's Good To Go.:biggrin_25525:

I was more nervous on that day than anytime in my life. I just went and did the driving test like it was any other practice day. My trainer and friends have taught me that you use one gear lower than what you would go up that hill in. If you went up in 8th go down in 7th. Some say use the same gear. Call the school and ask the head of training. I would have answered her like that. Next time you'll ace that test.

All I told the instructor when he asked about hill driving was "as I crest the hill I check my brakes, check for traffic, shift in to one gear lower than the gear I took the hill in, apply the brakes until I am 5MPH below the posted speed limit or 'safe speed', let off the brakes and let the truck coast back up to the speed limit and continue to use that method until I reach the bottom of the hill." That was fine for PA, not sure about SC.

Taking the CDL test is one of the most stressful things I've been through. The guy who rode with me to the test said it was more stressful than having a kid! I was so nervous I could barely talk during my pre-trip because my mouth was so dry! I think a lot of people fail the test the first time tho, so just go at it again and you'll get it done! Good luck!

When climbing a hill with a loaded trailer, its likely that you'll be forced to climb at a slower speed than your surrounding traffic; I suspect that the examiner was looking for you to say something about turning on the four-way flashers. I'm not certain if the FMCSR's specify it or not, but the generally accepted rule is that any time a CMV slows to 45 mph or less while in an area with a 55mph speed limit or higher, it is wise to turn on the 4-ways. Same thinking applies to descending the other side.

Don't let yourself get too discouraged, nobody hits a home-run (or even a base hit, for that matter) every time they step up to the plate. I've always thought the following is worthwhile to keep in mind: "The only difference between those who succeed versus those who fail, is that those who succceed keep trying at it just one more time than the number of times that they failed."

It is impossible to define how many times one has to fail before success comes, until the attempt comes that brings the success that we're chasing after. Sounds like that "one more try" is just around the corner for you. Good luck and let us know what the number is for you!!

i wouldn't worry about it. all you have left is the road test, all the thinking parts are out of the way. When I first went for mine I failed my alley dock. I wasn't in the box the way he wanted so i failed. Went back 2 weeks later and nailed the alley dock and took a 5 minute road test. My tester could see I knew how to drive and maintain a safe operation of my truck so I feel that is the reason why. Everyone before and after me went for about 15-20 mins. Good luck on the next one and don't over think it, you'll do fine.
