OMG like oil pressure has anything to do with whether the oil level is ok
owning a truck doesn't mean anything to being knowledgeable

I have to come to the defense of Richter. I did not read any post of his on this thread that came across as sarcastic or a know it all. just opinion & habits. newby's would be afraid to post, after reading someone on the ready with a whip to chastise one's routine. I am not new, & I never put clutch in when starting truck. I just make sure it is in neutral. or when my clutch brake was bad, I would put clutch to the floor. have also thought for sure it was in N & started truck & tried to lurch forward with brakes on. felt stupid. but I am human & so is Richter & everyone else. polite & courteous advice & opinions, even when disagreeing, just go sooo much farther in helping others. it's not just about the posters on a specific topic. it is about all the readers who may not post but read what they may encounter if they dare post a certain mindset or habit.

    Richter Thanks this.

Fwiw richter I agree with you on the starting with the clutch in. I've been doing this a while and I never push the clutch in cold out or not. I personally think it's hard on the thrust bearing on the crank. I personally know very few people that do it that way. I don't agree with some of your statements but different strokes for different folks right:biggrin_25525:

When the trans is up to operating temp it won't add much resistance to the starter motor by not pushing the clutch pedal but when it's dead cold you never want to add more work to the starter by making it turn gears in oil that's thick as molasses.

And Richter, why must you put on pants to sit in the driver seat? I say if they wanna look let 'em!

Lol i don't know enough about how a trans works to argue either side. i just know the truck has no problem starting with it out and putting it in is inconvenient if not int he seat lol
