You couldn't pay me enough to haul one of those with only straps.
Isn't the dunnage supposed to have a mitre cut on the inside so the coil isn't sitting on 90 degree corners?
I finally learned how to secure coils

Yrp should have beveled lumber
When I first started flatbed, that's all I mainly did was coils and slinkys
I was young and dumb. Plus I lived in an area, that was about it for work.
Taught me how to make sure you have a good tie down. I slid a stack of plate steel once.. yep no cross chain in the front. Panic stop. I felt it slide.. worst feeling in the world. Was in a side kit
setup. Got my arse chewed by customer. Was a pain to unld. Learned the hard way about cross chainsSteelhauler1246, rank, Big Don and 5 others Thank this. -
Surprised nobody has mentioned the straps being secured to the rub rail. Clearly stated in the green book as a no-no unless there is no other option.
Maybe I'm not surprised given that I see Melton and TMC use nothing but the rub rail for straps. -
See a lot of this, using the rub rail for securement.
Some trailers do rate the rub rail for securment, most do not. That transcraft this coil in on, if memory is correct, the rail is not a rated secument point. It gets "overlooked" all the time. well at least until the crash and that coil launches into something.Steelhauler1246 Thanks this. -

How do you know that is not the case in this instance? Incindentally, I, and all of the other drivers I do and have worked with, strap over the rub rails, never has a DOT officer said a word about it to any of us. I do not think it a big a NoNo as you believe it to be, regardless of what the Green Book states.Steelhauler1246 Thanks this.
