I am paid with a 1099. i worked as a self employed person years ago and understand the in's and outs of this. I did lose my health unsurance i had with NFI, but i can get it through my spouse so no biggie there. The work we do is very simple and secure. Pick up freight in upstate NY and take it to York PA, and then pick up a load in PA and back to NY. Its super easy. And as far as a small company and security, how secure was the job with NFI? Nfi is huge and that wasnt all that secure.
Plus with the smaller company, No Qualcomm, no sending in stupid macro's when i arrive and leave, no paperless logs, it's very free.
His intention is to get a couple more trucks and then I would be paid like normal with a w2 but it's no big deal. just gotta keep track of things. write everything off. F it. ha
I found the deal of a lifetime .94 cpm company driver.

this has opened my eyes more to becoming an O/O. after Fuel and other expenses, we split 2200 dollars for only 1400 miles. thats pretty decent. considering the truck i use isnt fuel savy, I have never been one to idle much, but this pig is big, square, and doesnt have the balls cut out of it. i drove it pretty conservatively , didnt idle, i still only managed to get about 5.3 mpg which the owner was very pleased with.
you would think after years of driving governed company trucks it would be nice to rip down the road at 70-75 but i find that 65 is a perfectly reasonable speed. it is nice having the loose leaf logs again. -
I was proud of the money i was making with NFI, and as long as the operations remained the same i would have made more with swift with this new deal i can make just as much or more doing half the work, plus i can honestly say i wasnt proud to be driving around an Nfi truck, and i dont think i would have been happy driving a swift truck. Ive got nothing against anyone who drives for swift, thats just me....

another thing about the swift deal i wasnt sure about, swift also is the house carrier for taget in my area as well. i was talking with one of their drivers who almost ##### his pants when i told him swift was offering me .48cpm. he has nearly the same expirence as me and with the target account he is only making .37cpm, no paid stops. that is crap money as far as i am concerned.
i am friends with a few drivers who are going to stay and work for swift with the walmart account, i left and started this new job with the mindset that if my friends are happy there and this does not work out i can always go back to work there.
i just couldnt understand how swift is paying the target account driver .11cpm less than the walmart account drivers. the distribution centers are 10 miles apart and service the same areas. -

Wal-mart a year ago or so completely revamped which dedicated carriers they are using. They got rid of a bunch of dedicated carriers and simplified who they stuck with. I think don't believe performance or rates had a whole lot to do with it, it seemed, based on who they kept and who they let go, was more about capacity. Swift, Werner for their Vendor to DC and DC to Store freight, CR England and Shaffer for their produce team loads off the west coast (Colton, Riverside) back to the DCs....those are the heavy hitters for dry and reefer so I guess it makes sense.
