Within the hour of getting it. That should be you first report to company.

There is no point going over the actions that led to the ticket. It's a traffic control type ticket not a hunts words... a cookie factory robbery. lol. Id just pay it and move on.

Eat the fine, stay trucking rather than waste a day or two sitting in court.

This is the aspect of the issue that I think gets lost. You can hire an entire floor of attorneys and you might get a charge reduced however you are not going to get the fine reduced. If the charge is NOT a 15 or more over or a reckless driving charge what is the point? All I know is what happened to me about 12 years ago in St Louis. I got a speeding ticket from a SL city cop that was a CVSA/MCSAP/DOT certified cop. I forgot the actual total but the ticket was going to take about $100 to pay. I was able to find an attorney to get it reduced and they did. When it was over the attorney cost me $200 and the city charged me almost $180 for the (noise violation) I plead guilty to. All in the name of keeping my CDL clean. I was speeding that day. I deserved that speeding ticket. Oh and that ticket was the last moving violation charge I ever had in a CMV. My job was not in jeopardy because I called safety that afternoon and told them. To this day I feel like I shot myself in the foot and paid almost $300 more then I needed to to satisfy a problem I was actually guilty of that in the end was not that big of an issue.

Report the ticket immediately. It occured while you were working for your company in the companies vehicle. CSA points or notification are only assesed, when a DOT inspection or DOT reportable accident occurs and a report generated, of which, you receive a copy. The reason/violation for the inspection will be noted on the report.

There is no such thing as a DOT reportable accident.

Edited: I purposely allowed some time between that post and this edit. The DOT reportable accident is actually DOT (recordable) not reportable. The FMCSA mandates carriers maintain an accident register. The FMCSA also only defines one kind of accident. IF said accident meets the terms set out in the regulations it MUST be recorded in said carriers register.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time typing a response to this that I have not already did more times then I really should have. FIRST you will find NO reference ANYWHERE in the FMCSA regulations to the term DOT Reportable Accident. If you do find it PLEASE link to it. Now I am going to link to this webpage that covers this better then I can at this point.

What is a DOT Recordable Accident?

I appreciate you and your answer. gives me something to think about.

Maybe I am the one who should be buried in anvils, but court houses are time and money sinks. I just pay em and roll on making miles. Especially now there has been a loss a given month.

I'll give your position careful thought today.

If they ask why you didn't notify them sooner, then you simply tell them that the law says you only have to notify them after a conviction. And you followed the law.
