I have not made an opportunity for any police officer to give me a ticket for 15-over. There are reasons posted speed limits are 45mph. The second ticket (within a month of the first) was in a city on his way to Walmart. Mr. PJ, are you saying you would cruise through town in a marked 45mph zone at 60mph?

Keeping in mind, the officer was probably giving this OP a break by citing for only 60 in a 45. Most likely, he was tagged going a bit faster, but at 15 over it really makes no difference, now does it?

And what if it's your kids walking home and some %$#*-head decides 15 over isn't that big of a deal, so cruises through the school zone marked 25mph at 40 just about the time your kids step off the sidewalk to cross the street?

You have inferred by your posts here that you regularly speed upward of 15 over. Sir, I don't. And I won't. Because it just might be your kids crossing the street.

And I will reiterate what I said earlier. Speed looks different when you are sitting higher. It seems slower than it really is. That's why I find myself running usually 5-10mph slower in my POV than my CMV until I look at the speedo and realize I'm holding up traffic. Therefore, if 60mph appears to be 45mph in a car, how much faster will the individual be driving if he or she is in a CMV and not watching the speedo?

First statement speaks for itself. Good luck on that one. Where you were before you got a ticket is completely irrelevant and does not impress me.

Second statement: Are you part of a heard of lemmings? Do you always allow someone else to make your decisions for you? When you took your written test for your class C license, didn't it ask what the unposted speed limit is through town and on rural roads through a park? Mine did. Your arguments are not doing you any favors.

Had you said something like, "I had just cut my arm off and was on the way to the hospital." I might show some sympathy. Otherwise, not getting it here. Good luck in your next career choice.

Point taken. You guys think I make it sound like I make these mistakes all the time. I just posted facts honestly. Of course I was not paying attention at this time I totally agree. I am normally aware of my traffic situations but you do not know all my issues I have been dealing with lately. I have a 10 year background in construction Supervision and 3 years in the Military before that. I need to change fields, I am reading the boards non stop to contrast and compare and take everything in. Along with being unemployed and trying to settle a insurance claim this week I got a lot going on in my head. Give me a break with all the negative insults heavy load.

No I did not infer that I regularly travel over the speed limit. I infer that it happens, maybe even in place where unexpected. Nor do I defend it.

What I have a problem with is the holier than thou attitude that, not me never. When I know good and well it does happen to all of us. FOr instance on the way into Overton NV, The speed limit on this highway is 55, there are a couple of places that the speed drops unexpectingly to 35 and or 25, If you were not familiar with the road you will be past the sign probably without seeing it.

If you know the road you know about the speed drops. In all fairness the local handout warning to the trucks, not tickets as they are in unexpected places.

As truck drivers you should be more intune and pay better attention than the untrained 4 wheeler, but if you watch all to often this is a untrue assumption also.

You should not feel the need to defend yourself of something that did not hot home.

Dude, please don't even think about getting your CDL. I don't want anybody pulling a 80,000 lb mass of death in a box, who can't tell me exactly how fast they were driving at all times.

Going 15 mph over the posted speed limit even one time is too many. You have done it twice? WTF? Both times your excuse was, You were too preoccupied to know how fast you were going, or you didn't notice the speed limit?

My family is driving on these roads. I will feel a lot better knowing that there is one less Idiot with a CDL out there, so please get a different job.

    Thank you, in advance.:biggrin_25510:

All right now enough with the low blows.

    Stop attacking the poster personally.

That said piloting 80,000 lbs safely down the road requires a driver to be on top of their game AT ALL TIMES. One second of misattention...... and your day looks like this.

When driving even my POV I probably glance at the speedo just guessing every 5 or 10 seconds. Its a habit I've gotten into and even when the cruise is set I'm still glancing.
15 over, not once but twice is going to show a record of careless driving.
It won't go well when you go for a job driving truck. Insurance companies are all about risk and no risk. 15 over even once is a risk many will not take on.

I never look at the speedometer...

I watch my GPS because it is way more accurate.

What makes me feel insulted is that you keep assuming that we are all like you. You don't care about following the Law so everyone doesn't care ? That's what you keep saying.

This is not true. This is what hits home.

You say we would all miss the speed limit change. I disagree unless it is not posted. If it's not posted then there is no change.

As a Driver you have to teach yourself to read every sign, to be aware of every factor that involves the road and traffic and to look in your mirrors every nine seconds.

If YOU do not do these things that's you. But, I do. You demonstrate disrespect for the posted speed laws, that's you. Not me.

I'm not holy, I just obey the Law. Is that strange ? I think not.

Stop putting your disregard for the Law and Safety on others. This is your issue, not ours.

I regularly check my speedo against the GPS. I know where its at because I don't always have the GPS on.
