the last job i had was a great fit. but i lost it. the truck that i was driving had a problem jumping out of gear. i had it in the shop twice for this problem and it wasnt fixed. i then started over a steep grade and it came out of gear again and i couldnt get it into gear at that moment . there just happened to be a highway patrol about halfway down this grade. about the time i got the truck back into gear and slowed down. he got me. 20mph over the speed limit. i was terminated for unsafe driving. what was i supposed to do? i did everything in my power to keep truck on its wheels and keep from having an accident. needless to say, the brakes were hot by the time i got slowed back down. i didnt just ride the brakes because i didnt want to lose them completely. but upon trying to explain this to the trooper, he told me that this didnt matter and that he got me for speeding regardless. is my career as a driver over because of this? i know that some companies will not hire a driver who was terminated for unsafe driving. the ticket will not go on my record because i have agreed to take an 8 hour defensive driving course to resolve the matter, while still having to pay the fees. first time i have ever went down a steep grade out of gear i thought i was going to need a new pair of pants. but what do you guys think? i need advice on getting another job as i have a family to support.
i got shafted, need advice

Always remain in control of your vehicle; its sounds like you've rcvd ur second chance, i.e. ticket reduction or adjudicated dismissal. When the ticket is final, you will know how fast or what to report. (judges decision is final) Driver Safe. When shifting dont experiment shifting without the use of a clutch, its possible to hit a gear & not be fully engaged in that gear, shift while directly thinking about your shift, dont shift as if its secondary to anything. (you didnt rcvg the shaft, safety is always first.)

OK! once it popped,you should have slowed down and pulled to the side of the freeway, came to a stop, then start over, now that you know that the truck still had the problem you should have kept your hand on shifter, the ticket may not go on your CDL but it will be on your SPS and CSA, And the company must likely had it put on your DAC, Good luck, But sorry, You where not shafted

What will your MVR show; anything?
You may have to explain why you were fired; what will you say?
What about DAC report; some companies care and some don't.
uber.com doesn't require a CDL and articles I've read state the drivers make $800 - $1000 weekly.Last edited: Dec 27, 2014

The biggest problem was your decision to drive a vehicle that was mechanicaly unsafe.
Yes you reported it but when it was not fixed you agreed to drive it.LGarrison, Raiderfanatic and Infosaur Thank this. -
probably, driving down a steep down grade without truck in gear. (eh, those were the writers words...im guessing thats what he told his Carrier. sigh)
Myself, i would rephrase to attempting to down shift on a steep grade, missed gear, brakes heated up & began to smoke, was able to safely make it to the shoulder, after being stopped, written up for speeding, judge after hearing the facts, dismissed ticket. How fast was i going: why i believe about 11 miles an hour over the limit...im pretty sure
)
Chinatown Thanks this. -
i only told my carriier the truth which was what i thought i was supposed to do. maybe honesty is not always the best policy but i try to be anyway. better than trying to lie and then getting caught up in it later.

either way i appreciate the advice and am going to try to straighten this mess out. maybe i shafted myself. i now realize there were lots of thing i could have done different, but its too late for that now.
