I just stumbled on this forum for the first time. I feel like something of a traitor to my profession for not being here sooner. To be honest I lost interest in trucking a long time ago and have viewed it as nothing more than a paycheck for some time. When I found this forum I expected to read a lot of B.S. supertrucker crap written by big belt buckle, "I only drive a Pete" types. I've been pleasantly surprised that that doesn't seem to be the case. Reading the Welcome Wagon posts got me all nostalgic. When I got into trucking I was thrilled at the prospect of seeing new places. I met all sorts of interesting people in exotic locals such as the Los Angeles produce market, The Fulton fish market and various industrial areas across the continent. I've driven through blizzards in Saskatchewan and a Hurricane in Florida. I've hauled trade show exhibits to Vegas and Orlando, countless loads of mixed greens from Yuma, and fuel to gas stations. I guess if I had advice to offer to someone new to the industry it would be: Don't kill yourself. Take advantage of your time off and don't try to get rich driving a truck. Working 70 hours a week will make you feel real old real fast. Don't do it.
