When something like that comes up and I am confronted with the concept of someone counting rain drops against money to run a 18 wheeler... I am on my way to look for another company to drive for.

The only time I ever cared for raindrop by counting is when I was with a paving company. My boss would worry about that. When we get too many and he tells us go home we try this job again tomorrow we will go. His handle was actually raindrop. But if the radio says it's raining in one county and not raining where we are, we keep on working. He stresses about raindrops all the time.

However when I see a raindrop hit the windshield, I will evaluate it for what the weather above us is doing. If its freezing, bouncing off like a ball of ice or sliding sideways with fat rain drops etc generally can come up with anything that is actionable as you head into a storm, whatever it is. Then depending on season tornado season or ice season you make decisions and do what needs to be done to keep the trucks safe.

I get snarky and difficult when I find a boss or someone stressing about a pair of windshield wipers cost. I don't want to hear it. In fact im already deciding to look for a better employment. If your company teeters on ruin and desolation over a set of 30 dollar wipers then I am not going to be a witness to that failure. Bye. lolz.

On the other hand I have no emotional difficulty ordering a mechanic to replace say a 2000 plus dollar airconditioning that burned up on the company tractor trailer. It's a bill that the company will have to pay. They wont like it but they pay up.

THEY start looking for a replacement driver for me. =)

applied common sense. A trainer is supposed to give you the basics to build off of.

Question: If you been driving for a few years and you switch companies do you have to be with a trainer again?? Or can you just jump right into your own truck at a new company if you have the experience?

Should be a test drive and go type of deal, some not even that.
I know if someone told me to team up with a trainer, I would just keep looking. lol

Lynden put a newer driver on the haul road, and his training was he had to follow someone else that agreed to let him follow. Him and my swamper were friends , so some how, even though I do not wok for Lynden they had him follow me a few trips. Now he had been running switches on the pavement for a couple of months.

I have never seen a brake check area NOT marked as mandatory.

Then again I don't run out west. In the east, if they put up a brake check area the sign says all trucks must stop.

I have run all over the west, and am sitting here trying to remember, every one I can remember has been mandatory, Canada has more than the US, and they will fine you if you ride on by one, even bobtail, a friend found that out the hard way. lol

I don't know why you wouldn't want to stop at the brake check and look? How do you know the lining hasn't started separating on one of the shoes or something else that could have started going wrong since your pre trip? I don't run mountains so maybe I'm a lil paranoid about it but I think it's a good idea.

You have to log the stop in canada, just draw a line, so I generally right my milage and time down then head on down. I know if the brakes are working or not when I pull in. If you haven't been there before they usually have a sign you can look at to see how long and curvy it is.

Those signs are pretty neat, I've never seen one in person but there has been a few guys that have posted them on here.
