upload_2016-3-31_20-10-32.png Looks just like our "Spike" ... aka Roo, when he was a baby. Wouldn't trade him for the world. He loves the kids like a pot of gold at the end of his rainbow. We don't teach him to be aggressive by ANY means; he's protective by nature, but has more bark than bite. When the son and wife and I wrestle (horseplay) he barks and nudges because he loves us all, but doesn't wish to hurt ANY one. He knows the sound of EACH and EVERY car/truck that belongs at our home, or Gramma's next door. If/when he hears a strange vehicle, he barks, and wants out. He's never charged nor bit anything/anyone, but then we've not needed him to. He rescued a baby bunny last fall, and did not kill it when my son said *down* he put it down. The cat was trying to kill the bunny. He still sleeps with that dang cat. (The dog, not the bunny.)
Our neighbor's chihuaua (sp?) bit my son on the nose last year; our dog was at the groomers, good thing perhaps. What did my son do to deserve that? Gave that dog a bone, and leaned over to pet it. Roo will take a bone, and put it DOWN if my son tells him to. It's all in the upbringing. Maybe the blood-lines.
We had a rottie about ten years ago; was a police-dog flunkie because he was too gentle. He'd rather learn to do the two-step with the wife, than chase a cat. (We got him free, and sold him for $500 bucks, papers and all.) Still visit him occasionally.
Good luck in your endeavours, O/P. Like @TROOPER to TRUCKER said, maybe try USX? Heck, I'd take ours on the road with me; but the wife and kids would get upset, LoL!

I think what he meant was, "he cannot predict what they will do." Pits have been bred for viciousness strength and fighting. I don't think anyone can argue that fact. I'm not saying they are all vicious, but many many are. So when someone has a pit and loves and properly cares for it, and other people fear it, who is wrong? I'll tell you who is wrong is the people who bred them to be killers. Everyone else is right to feel the way they do. So you are right to own a pit. But I am right to brain that dog if he gets out of truck/ off leash or whatever.

Not a big fan of Pits. I had a female Doberman that never left my shop in the industrial park unless I was with her.
A pit from a shop 500 feet away walked into my shop one day and without provocation laid into my Doberman and chewed her up real good. Thank god I had a shovel handy to hit the thing with or my dog would have been dead.
She nor I had ever seen this dog before. I rushed her off And had to have surgery to have her sewn up and have her ear attached.

Found the owner of the Pit the next day and told him what had happened and told him he needs to settle up a 1000 dollar vet bill with me.

He told me to fok off and shove my bill and that my dog was a wimp.

I regretted not taking the blade of the shovel to that dog.

My dog was never the same all scarred up and her ear all screwed up.

I am not scared of almost any dog but since that little experience I have had big pits running loose in my neighborhood and I arm myself now.

I know 95 percent of a dogs social aspects are from its owner, unfortunately there is many dog owners that do not belong owning what could potentially being a aggressive dog.

I figure a person has a better chance of being bite by my blue heeler than a pit. I mean nippin ankles is in his genes.
The people that believe their dog is harmless worry me, no matter the bred. They are a living breathing creature with instincts and emotions. Sometimes we have no clue what sets them off. Being able to handle your animal and keep them contained is key, no matter how friendly some folks ain't dog people. I have had the heeler before this one attacked and the cops called on me for what my dog done with the aggressor. Funny thing, wasn't a pit or rottie. Not even a bull dog. A freaking weenee dog with little man syndrome.

Those mean dogs are easy to get rid of. I keep them well fed with Little Smokey sausages laced with a double dose of laxative. It doesn't take long for the owner to keep them tied or get rid of them. One of my former neighbors had to repaint the inside of his house because it was sprayed with dog poop; stuff even got on the ceilings. Two Dulcolax tablets in each little sausage will solve your problem.

A dog that is a danger when "out of its comfort zone" is a danger.

We are rehabilitating a 6 year old stray from adopt a pet that looks like he might have some pit in him. He is "territorial" when he sees other dogs on our walks. (He even bristled and barked at a tree stump) This is unacceptable. He has only been in his new forever home with us four weeks but is progressing very well.

We had a pit and a big male Doberman on the farm I used to help run with my brother inlaw.

This was 35 years ago when you didn't see pits very often.

My brother in laws Border Collie of 10 years got under the Combine tire one night so the owner of the farm picked up a pit puppy that he came across.

The 2 dogs were always running the fence lines as we worked the fields. For about 2 days the pit went missing. Happened to find it all caught up in some fencing off a little hidden field we had .

Cut it loose all bloody to hell and not eating or drinking for 2 days and that dog acted like nothing had happened to it.

That dog was crazy. Loved diesel fuel. He would go into the farm shop and grab fuel cans we had sitting around with old fuel in them and drag them out and chew on them until they broke .
Dog was Tough, nothing fazed it.
Brother inlaw got rid of it after my sister had a kid,. It had killed a few hogs on the farm and my brother inlaw just didn't feel good having it around a baby.
Not saying it was all the breed, but that dog had a mind of its own

Not worth the risk to own one. Can lose everything you worked for your whole life in one incident. Juries will slam anyone over a pit bull incident.
