Yes don't give up on your dream, especially if you've gone to all the trouble of paying for your own CDL training, the catch is with this method, is cause you've not done so through a transport company training program, your limited to who will hire you. When we went across to LW Miller one of the driver's was well into his 60's and the company had no issues hiring him, I caught up with him about 8 years later, by then he'd gotten a green card and was still with the company and well into his 70's. As some have mentioned the only obstacle for you really will be passing the DOT medical, if all is well then you can continue to legally drive CDL.
I have a problem getting hired

61 is not old for trucking and 61 is not old period. I've met a guy that was 70 driving for Stevens Transport in his rookie year. Where I work, we got several drivers knocking on the door of 70. Hell these days, I don't even think 70 is old. Old to me, is more so a mind frame than an age. That being said, you can find some work. Swift is probably not returning your calls because a company that large gets too flooded. Keep contacting them. With license issue, I'd probably do something crazy like tell them my car is broke down severely so I saw no purpose in paying insurance lol. To take someone's license for that is extreme to me.

I'm 71. I look like late 50's. Feel like 100 some days. Overall, I'm enjoying myself. I'll drive about 3 more years and call it quits. Seen too many retirees drop when they don't have anything to keep them going. Not gonna be one of those. I have plans for after I stop driving. Oh, well, time to go lift kettle bells.
