If you work for a county as an heavy equipment operator, that requires a CDL class-A license: would the time you've worked as an equipment operator count as experience against the 1 year most trucking companies require?

Doesn't count as OTR; some local running company might recognize it, but Panther Expedite has on their web no experience required.

Sorry to hear dptrucker, I also was at swift for about 2 weeks. Thats all I could handle. Things happened safety wise and I decided to get on a jet; to come home to my family. Swift told me I can come back anytime I want. I probably never will.

When I drove for Swift, I only had 11 months experience (all I/C), and had been out of the truck for over 2 years. They told me before orientation that if I pass the road test, I wouldn't have to go with a mentor. They stood by it, too.

No it will not count as experience.

Most companies gauge your experience (for pay rate) by using a point system. For instance one year over the road is one point. Two years = two points, etc... Some companies will count local experience as 1/2 a point.

That is a big feather in your cap! Truckers drive trucks, Heavy Haul drives anything that moves. FBF (flat beds forever) I'm a Trucker that hauls equitment and load & unload it.
