I hear a crack

    Doing rear hub seals, tear it down and whack the spindle with a hammer. Its not ringing like it should. Took off the seal wear ring, still no ring. I cant see the crack and it sounds like it wants to ring but cant. Could it be my imagination?

    it should ring loud and clear. clunk means its cracked. im right between the two.

    Put it back together.

    I have never based the integrity of an axle tube/ housing by the ring of a hammer.

    But I could imagine that different housings may sound different. Never tried it.
