Really? I'm sure Mike knows more about radios than you or I will ever understand. The only thing you really know about the inner workings are what few crumbs of knowledge fine tune drops your way. It doesn't make you better than someone who has a lifetime experience of working on radios. In one video he showed the small imd in the stock radio, but i think he mentioned, that for the video he wasnt concerned about it. He even showed the splatter from the amp hooked up to it. So what, that video wasn't even about splatter, but it seems like fine tune made another stupid kiddy video about it to put mike down. I guess some people never grow up.

Splatter is splatter....As a radio user i dont care who does the work but i as a customer dont want any tech adjusting a radio to splatter..
If splatter is acknowledged by said tech then it would appear he/she/they need to eliminate it with required tools and knowledge....
If mike said it has splatter and didnt or couldnt eliminate it then why is said tech doin what he does to create it..

Nightstalker dude..I gotta laugh at your reply sir with the "mike knows more than you" kinda responce.....Lol it brought me back to my childhood days of "My dad can beat up your dad"!!!

No need for chest puffin but just explain your point....Am i to assume you can fix this situation as in repair ect that mike cant or didnt?
If not your doin basically what you accuse rabbi of doin..

What you just said is true. It also proves my point that Mike doesn't have a clue how bad it really was and he doesn't have a clue what he was looking at because at because he didn't seem too concerned about it. This proves my point. According to Mike it was no big deal. Unfortunately in the real world it is a big deal and the distortion that he said was no big deal sounded nasty and drastically decreased the performance of the radio causing it causing it to bleed all over the place.
Not to mention the Fidelity was lost with any amount of distortion at any frequency but Mike would never know that if he follows a service manual because the service manual doesn't tell you to look for distortion at 50 Hz or 4000 Hz. For somebody that purchases thrift store equipment and wants somebody to restore antique radios, Mike is a good person to do the work for pennies on the dollar but don't expect it to ever perform.
Mike needs to stick to what he's good at which is which is spending hours and hours of labor replacing capacitors and following a simple service manual.
Tuning isn't his area of expertise.

Nobody likes people who prey upon your ignorance in order to take your money without providing an equitable service in return either.

That’s right ….. big head over priced radios …. I’ve been dealing with radio shops for 35 yrs, and not to say he doesn't do I good job, but there’s plenty of shops out there that will do just as well for what most drivers need, and not charge huge amounts of money,
I have 2 Stryker 447hp2s in separate trucks
They talk skip and when the conditions are right they talk 15, to 20 mile, ther tuned clean and the antenna system is right at 1.1 on swr and resonant on 27.2050…. And there not a fine tuned radio ….blah, blah, blah
    He’s not the only one

That's very true. There's plenty of other textbook technicians willing to make excuses for why they can't make your export radio perform better than an Icom 7300.
Watch out for the guys that blame microphones for how the radio sounds or blame the radio for how it sounds or blame an amplifier for producing harmonics when the amplifier was simply doing what it was designed to do, instead of accepting responsibility for their inability to "tune".
This guy is highly respected and many people look up to him as a mentor even as he makes excuses. Short of purchasing a radio from Mark, this guy is your next best option.
There's plenty of technicians just like him scattered around the country that will give you results identical to what you are seeing in this video if that is acceptable to you.

I don't question the work. It's probably OK. Radio repair is like any other service or product; it can only get so good. After you reach that plateau, additional money spent is simply wasted.

I never would have brought it up if I hadn't heard him bragging on channel 19

That's very true. Once you can replicate the barefoot 74 mile Freightliner Cascadia trip at those same GPS coordinates, any additional money is wasted unless it is spent on an illegal amplifier. Purchasing an amplifier without reaching that plateau first is also a waste of money.
