Dosy meters ... what comes with that?

    Dosy watts?

It's important to distinguish. I hear Bird watts are louder, but much more expensive.

No I'm not necessarily working towards the DXCC award. I just occasionally work another country. I have been trying to get the WAS award. Technically I probably could have already had that award, if I could count all my old QSO cards. Today everything seems to go through the LOTW, which is okay.

Is that the Clansman prc-320 that you have. I'm not familiar with that radio, but it looks nice for a portable military spec radio. I built a 49:1 unun and today I put up a 135 ft EFHW antenna. I always wanted to try one so I finally got it put up now that warmer weather is here. I've got my LDG Rt100 remote tuner hooked up to it. Now I can get on 80 meters too, where my zero five is 10 thru 40.

Yes, you are right. Even with a little power loss, due to the higher SWR, isn't noticable on the other end of your signal. I actually had my radios power output set to 15.6 watts, and my mfj 849 meter showed 400 milliwatts reflected. So that put my radios RF signal close to 15 watts.
I know what your thinking .. an mfj meter? Ha. I'm not convinced mfj built this digital meter, it's looks too good to be made by mfj. Plus I've seen this same meter with another name on it, maybe from a country in Europe?

The thing I don't understand is why someone would buy a more powerful 'tuned" radio from Mud Dck. Wouldn't one of his radios make him come through louder and 'meaner' than he already does?

Basically, spend $700 and get to hear the Mud Dck even more

The people who buy his radios don't understand that "his special radios" are already that way from the factory. All he does is convert them from 10 meters to 11 meters. He's only a hypocrite and a con man.

Your on the right track. But it's not just an alignment (tune) of a radio that makes it transmit or receive farther distances. The two important key factors involved is band conditions and a good antenna system. For years people have been talking across several states with just a factory tuned radio. Also an 800 watt amplifier helps too. :)

I've never heard of this mystical procedure before. Every antenna I designed and built was frequency and vehicle-specific and the radio itself was never factored into the equation.

Some of us enjoy listening to stock Cobra 29s from 30 miles away as we drive down the highway. If you want to be the first person to know about road conditions ahead of you then naturally you would want the best possible receiver so you can hear and understand signals weaker than everyone else's noise.

How did you arrive at this conclusion without test equipment? What test equipment do you have? Are you just speculating?
