I'm not a technician but nobody has a radio that can hear what mine can hear and very few people have a radio that sounds as good as mine or performs as good as mine. If someone wants to know why my radio does what it does, I can't give credit to the manufacturer because it did not perform this way when it came off their assembly line. It's all about the tune. The next best thing would be a stock radio right out of the box and if any technician that you know touches that radio the performance will always be worse than stock.
I hear Hard Drive

So am I one of those who lack knowledge and ability with an overestimation of my education and skills?
I can make this statement without reservation, I have forgotten more than you have ever known.
It is a guide, nothing more, the service manual is not intended to be a do-all-mod manual.
A little arrogance does go along in the CB world. I think Mark has rubbed off on you a bit too much.
Rabbi, you need to get that you are not the only one out there with radios that can hear.
If you are not a tech, which is loosely defined here, then what are you?
You have a bit of knowledge, but it seems you cling to only one side of the conversation. -
Well sorry my friend, but this 74 mile contact isn't just because of who tuned your radio. How high up on the mountain were you again? Oh that's right you've never said. The two biggest contributers to long range communication is height and band conditions. Add high power with a good antenna system helps. You mentioned earlier that the law of physics can't be changed, and your right.

I'm not interested in watching a video that's made by someone whose mentality is a 10 year old. I would like to see a video of a radio from Mikes radio repair that sounds bad. Can you prove what you say about him?Timin770 Thanks this.

I guess you haven't been paying attention. I'll let Mike speak for himself when he tries to blame a microphone for his sloppy tune. It's clear he doesn't understand what he's looking at. That acorn shaped waveform is hilarious but he seems to think it's perfectly acceptable.
Just for giggles, I'll let you listen to a sample of his work.
And just to show how clueless he is about the source of his distortion and harmonics, I'll share this other video that he himself made. It's pretty bad when somebody blames amplifiers for producing harmonics that are obviously being produced within the transmitter itself and the amplifier is merely amplifying those harmonics, although I will admit the problem does become worse when the amplifier is constructed from mismatched transistors running in parallel, but you can clearly see the harmonics produced by the radio and his sloppy tune. This is precisely why I recommend a Cobra 29 right out of the box and don't let any golden screwdriver tamper with your radio and i will hear you further than all these brainiacs running export radios.
UOTE="Ridgeline, post: 12490181, member: 77050"]Rabbi, you need to get that you are not the only one out there with radios that can hear.[/QUOTE]
I'm sure if you get a thousand foot more elevation than I have you would be able to hear further but if we were sitting side by side, whoever we are listening to would disappear out of your receiver sooner and I would still be able to hear that person long after all you hear is atmospheric noise.
An ex-navy sonar technician which doesn't qualify me to do this type of work.
Now you're just making up stories. The GPS coordinates were provided in the video and out of millions of truck drivers driving across interstate 80 over the past 20 years. None of them have been able to reach me for more than 30 mi away going westbound except for Tom. Are you insinuating that it's purely a coincidence that the guy who tuned my radio is the same guy who tuned Tom's radio? It wouldn't be very scientific of me to keep changing my location.
I'm glad we can agree on something, although I wish you would remember this in the future when you try to deny the laws of physics. -
Oh I've been paying attention, especially how you like to twist people's words around. He shows two stock radios showing the same spurious waveform signals due to the type of LP filters the factory uses. Yet you make it sound like that's perfectly acceptable to him when it probably isn't. After all he did fix it on the customers radio that he did work on. Mike explains the mic amp circuit and how he had to change the filter circuit components. You know, just like hard drive probably does.
He also explains how poor the customers mic sounds on the radios, and he had to modify it. So what. I've had microphones that didn't sound good either. Nothing to do with the radio. He wasn't blaming the mic for anything other than it sounded awful.
As far as your second video not working due to age restriction, that's okay, I'm sure it wasn't worth the time watching anyway.Last edited: Jul 7, 2023

I said you didn't say how high up in elevation you were. I'm not wasting my time looking up GPS coordinates.
Interesting you didn't comment about my pointing out that height and band conditions play an important part. -
And time of day, and let's not forget sideband.Oxbow and Night Stalker10 Thank this.

You mean this electronic tech that worked in avionics for 30 plus years?
Well you maybe right, he probably has no clue on how to work on a lowly cb radio, let alone a high quality export radio. Careful with your reply, because he's talking your language...linearity, IMD, etc. -
Yes, you make an excellent point. I wonder how many of those millions of trucks rabbi talked to over the years were on sideband. That may explain why he couldn't talk to them any farther than 30 miles. Just like in his historic video, he had to switch over from AM to SSB to complete the contact.Oxbow, Vampire and High Stepper Thank this.
