Rabbi, yes there is a difference between facts and opinion, so let me ask you this to establish your position.

What test equipment do you have on your bench that you use to determine a fact?

    Timin770 Thanks this.

I believe he's using an APP, according to one of his post he made.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

You didn't prove anything. You simply validated my point. The distortion occurs at a frequency Your radio is incapable of reproducing. The magical microphone simply doesn't produce sound at that frequency. Either that or the curve is different with the microphone that you like. Either way your transmitter has a predetermined curve and a predetermined bandwidth and predetermined amplitude at every frequency within the audio spectrum regardless of what microphone you decide to plug into that radio.
It's impossible for you to exceed the transmitters limitations by changing microphones. The only thing you can do by changing microphones is possibly reduce amplitude at a specific frequency or multiple frequencies, but you will never force the radio to produce a sound that it is incapable of producing simply by changing a microphone.
It takes drastic modifications to force a radio to sound the way Mark's radio and my radio sounds and it can't be achieved simply by changing microphones. I'm glad you experimented and found something you like, but it's unfortunate you had to waste money on some microphones that you don't like.

Well I read rabbi's post and wonder if he wants to break all of it down for stupid people like me?

I know about what Mark is doing, but I don't agree with your position on mics and how they are the cause of distortion, I know a little about mics and how they work so it isn't all that easy to just make a blanket statement.

Here is the thing, CB radios are made specifically to limit the distortion within the audio stages, this is not to reproduce audio in high fidelity. One of the mods that Mark and others too are doing is to reform the filtering that was put in place to decrease the harmonic distortion and limit the phase distortion that is created within the amps themselves. By using different and less harsh filtering, they are raising and lowering the frequency limits of the audio strip which allows the reproduction of the audio close as possible, making it more linear and less distorted.

Mics do produce distortion but not in the way many think. The element is the source of some of it but user error is for most of it. Mic is a conversion device, not a reproduction device and the frequency response and signal-to-noise ratio of the element has a lot to do with distortion but only if the mic is improperly used. I am not talking about damaged elements which there are a lot of out there.

Sorry for the abbreviated post, I had a lot more to say but I have to hit the road, I have a 200-mile drive to meet drivers to hand out bonuses.
