I have been thinking about traction all night.

Since when did trucks get so weak under those drives?

Ive had the first gen computer trucks get stuck just a little bit but enough to call the shop and talk over a tow because we are stuck stuck stuck.

Along comes a little ford superduty 250 and a whip of chain on the hook plus a little tug and big truck is out. (Obviously Im in there pulling with it.)

Now this is my thought. I might as well talk to the moon when I say this thought:

We have got to stop making trucks at the factory that will get stuck easy on a little bit of something. If we are going to have good trucks, let's by gawd build good trucks again.

When I was working highway construction in Ohio while they were building RT 711 in Youngstown,OH. They were moving stone or dirt. When they would empty the drivers would start to leave and their buckets would drop while moving. One day I was sitting on a jersey wall at bridge deck when a truck hit the bridge with his bucket. Because the bridge was on an angle with the road the bucket and truck started to roll and landed on it's side where I was sitting. I just jumped to my feet and ran not thinking I could have ran into live traffic. Two day later another truck doing the same thing took down a brand new not even two days old overhead sign structure spanning the highway. It's all about the need for speed I guess.

I haven't been driving that long and I'm no mechanic, but it always seemed like a strange design to me that you have two "drive" axles without posi-traction. When you're going down the highway without the interlocks engaged there are only 2 tires pulling the entire truck on one axle on one side of the truck. Or if you have super singles, one tire is pulling everything, which is what I had. I've seen drivers get stuck many times at an icy fuel island with ice under their right side drive tires. If the interlocks would engage both sides of the axle, the left side would help pull it right out.. Did older trucks have posi?

Not that I know of. For as cheap as full lockers are I don’t know why they aren’t on every truck.

All of our new trucks have full locking diffs. Makes a world of difference.

You misunderstand. When one wheel breaks loose then it can spin while the others don't, yes. But when going down the road all four corners are being powered, that's how differentials work.
