Again...thanks for your input. Two questions for you. Are you an experienced driver? If so, how many companies have you worked for?
I just gotta know...

Off to school next week. However, at my age, I've learned quite a bit about filling out job applications. Companies will give you a chance, especially if the "indiscretion" happened a long time ago. But what I have also found is pretty much ALL companies will fire you on the spot if they find out you lied on the application. It's much better to be honest on the application.

Got my CDL in 2002. Have never driven OTR. Got lucky and worked for a few small, low paying companies. In '03 I hooked up with a company and drove a rig for them at night for about a year. Wanted to transfer to a day route but only class-B was available. I went for it. Haven't driven class-A since 2004. I am now considering going OTR with one of the larger companies. I'm not proud of the fact that I have a "checkered" past. I have NO felonies and NO arrests since 1995. I DO have a few DUIs, the last of which was in 1995. NO drug charges, NO sex crimes, NO violent crimes. Which brings me to my question....Can anyone tell me how far back the bigger companies go when they run a background check? I've "heard" they go back 10 years. Can any of you veterans who have driven for a few different companies shed some light on my dilema? I would prefer to be truthful on my application but if I am...I just might be disqualifying MYSELF! Your thoughts would be appreciated. Signed...."Desperate".

How many DUI's? Many of the bigger companies will allow 2.

companies vary on how far they go back. anywhere from 5 to 10 years. yours is 13 years ago so you should be ok. just be honest on the application and pay attention to detail. what part of your past are you worried about ? need some kind of details here to give an honest opinion. have you ever been convicted of anything ? from what i read the dui's might be only problem unless there is something your not telling. you seem a little too nervous about it. no reason to be nervous if you have nothing to hide.

It's real simple. If you lie and they catch you they will report that you lied on your application and no one will touch you. I don't know where you got the idea that your past record will disqualify you from ALL driving jobs but it's wrong. You say you have no felonies so unless you're wanted there's plenty of companies that will hire you especially after so many years with a clean record. So believe the people when they say be honest on the job applications or interview. If you try to cover up any information they ask your career is over before you even started when it didn't need to be.

When I was a younger I was terrible! Not proud of it. This is going to take some "humble pie" to give you more details but your advice would be appreciated so hear goes.
Since I got my first drivers license about 35 yrs ago I have been arrested for DUI probably about 6 times. A few were reduced to wreckless. In addition, I have been arrested for other minor offenses such as "drunk in public"....warrants for failure to appear, etc. Nothing really serious and those were perhaps 30 yrs ago. No felonies or drug charges. Only one of the DUIs show on my DMV printout (from 1995). My concern is that the others will show up on my CRIMINAL record if they go back more than 10 years. If I'm honest on my app and tell them I've been busted for DUI 6 times they will probably laugh in my face and suggest I become a stand-up comic! If I ONLY divulge what may come out in the last 10 yrs....I'd be good to go!
I hope these additional details will help you give an honest opinion. -
Do....not...lie...on...job...applications.. Period.

everybody has done things we are not proud of. people will look at you as you look at yourself. hopefuly you got your alcohol issues under control as there is no room for alcohol out here on the road.
so you do have your cdl right ? and exp in the past 5 yrs of at least two years recent experience ? on most applications it asks if you have been convicted of dui's or felonies or misdemeanors in a certain amount of time, usually the past seven to ten years, you can honestly say no if that is the case. don't induldge info that is older than that as it is not neccassary and its not lieing either. if you answered yes and can do that i know of a company that will look at you and just might put you to work. let me know -
From another post, he's asking for the "have you ever" questions. Which in that case, he would need to list those DUIs.
