Hey dudes. So I'm going to be totally honest, I am at a complete loss with what the hell is going on in my life right now. I was laid off about a year ago, took a few months to reset my brain, then my dad got sick and wound up passing. He left me this freightliner, and I really don't know what to do with it.

It's a 1972 Freightliner Cabover, with a small sleeper behind it. It was originally orange, because it was from Allied. Here's a super old photo, when he bought it:

    Yep, that's me.

Since my dad bought it to primarily tow his boat, it's been customized quite a bit:

    - Cleaned up chassis rails an integrated a box framed ball mount hitch for his boat, chassis is CLEAN, extra holes welded shut, ground smooth, all welds ground down, sprayed gloss black
    - Polished wheels, tank, and 6" stainless lake pipes along the tanks
    [IMG]
    - Resprayed cab white with dark blue stripes to match the boat
    - New front bumper (lower)
    - Cab extensions to look cool
    [IMG]
    - Seats are pneumatic and from I think a 01 Volvo

Wheels and a few other things were updated since. See, here's the thing. My dad went way too far. It's REALLLY nice, like a lot of the hardware is stainless, that he ground flat, and polished. I remember the frame being so nice you could eat off it. It was so nice, in fact, he pretty much stopped using it. He just borrowed an otto from the truck shop whenever he needed to move his boat, instead of using this ###### truck he built just for it.

So now what? I honestly have no idea. I have a lot of toys, and I am building some off grid land in the mountains a few thousand miles away, but is this truck viable for any use for me, or should I try to sell it? And if I were to try to sell it, how much is it worth, and where do I even list it?

Sorry for sounding like an idiot, I am a car/boat guy, but I don't have a CDL and know literally nothing about big trucks. They are cool. I have no idea what engine or trans is in it. Or miles. I just know it's really nice, and it's been stored inside since it was completed. It has been sitting for like.. jeez. 10 years? Maybe 15?

Look up a local chapter of the ATHS. Call the president and talk to them. They should be able to help you. It has hobby plates on it so a cdl to drive it probably isn’t needed. Very nice W-FL. They are getting more rare as time goes by. Give it a good home with a collector or enthusiast if you are not able to keep it. Those year vintage trucks were 100% Aluminum cabs. Many had aluminum frames, and some had aluminum rearend axle housings. So because of that tons of them went to recycling yards. Running truck in that kind of shape of that vintage would be in the $15-25k range. That truck was probably around $20k. new so in a way it has held its value.

Single axle limits choices for hauling freight.

I see one running around in my area pulling a 5 axle side dump trailer. But he has a duals. And it don't look as nice as yours.

Welcome aboard. 1st, sorry to hear about your dad, seems a lot of older truckers are going that route. 2nd, while the truck itself has little earning potential, for another hobbyist, it's perfect. Being new, I don't think you can post pictures for a spell. This is not really the place for a truck like that, and there are a couple places to advertise. ATHS( Am. Truck Hist. Soc) has this, but you might need to be a member:
American Truck Historical Society – Backlot Classifieds
Also a site called "Vintage Truck" has classified:
    Vintage Truck magazine
or many are listed on Facebook Marketplace. That was a very common truck, as every freight hauler in the country used them, CF the most popular, but they all used them. Whether or not it has any appeal today, could be iffy.
******Say, are you a "Welte"? I grew up and trucked in Wisconsin, and I recognize the name on the REO next to it. I believe I knew your dad Mark(?)from the Wis. ATHS chapter. If so, do you still have the Diamond Reos? I'm originally from L.Mills, Wis. and left it behind 7 years ago to retire in Colorado.
Good luck, pal, I'm confident someone will want dads truck, if for nothing more than what your dad did with it. I say it's more than likely a Cummins 290( ish, 2 small stacks would indicate a Detroit motor) with a 10 speed was the way most were equipped. Trucks like this should bring $10gs easy.

Not sure if the guy would have any interest, or if could point you in a solid direction, but there’s a place called Keystone Antique Truck & Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights VA.

I don't know how useful that thing would be. I have seen a lot more COEs on the road lately, but that's single axle. Either way, that thing is ####ing COOL.
