Here's my $.02.....I have trained a few folks over the years to do my job, but thankfully never in an OTR position. I am most definitely NOT a people person (one of the reasons I'm a truck driver in the FIRST place!), but was doing what my boss asked (and NOT for any extra pay either!). I did my best to explain all the ins and outs of the job, the routes, the customers, etc. and then let THEM show ME what skills they had, what they didn't, and what areas they needed work on. Only once did I ever not make it through an entire training period (didn't even finish the day- guy was a nice fella, but after about an hour I decided if I let him finish the day I would have absolutely NO teeth left on any of my gears...lol) and afterward about 90% of them actually thanked me for my patience and helpfulness (remember, I'm NOT a "people person at all!). If you don't feel comfortable with a trainer in the future for WHATEVER reason, you are doing both you AND them a disservice for not at the least discussing it with them, and if unable to come to an amicable understanding, them discussing it with dispatch/management as well. Just make sure you have a valid issue/complaint and aren't just being a fragile flower who wants everything handed to you on a platter (not singling you out OP, just anyone in general)
All that said, I think you did the right thing. I would have probably had to advise him to make sure his disability insurance was up to date if he ever so much as thought about threatening me again....![]()
I left my trainer

I dumped my first trainer after a few days, would have been sooner but we had to finish the run and get back to the terminal. I just stopped talking to him, and he asked, "Do you want another trainer, and I said yes. This guy was a class A jerk, yelling at me all the time for practically nothing.
My second trainer was awesome: very patient, and I learned what I needed. That was over a million miles ago.
Both these drivers were Americans.Neon Cthulhu Thanks this. -
Big Don, Neon Cthulhu and Puppage Thank this.

I'd have kicked the #### out of him and the tied him to grill of the truck with his turban. If you're going to threaten me you might as well try to slap me because a threat is as good as the action of the threat in my book. But......you did the right thing.
OPUS 7 and Neon Cthulhu Thank this. -
It would of been no contest. I outsize him quite a bit, probably would of had it been week 3 but since it was my first true day of driving. Plus the whole new job thing comes into my mind at that moment. His demeanor changed tenfold once I was driving. He got so upset he started telling me I was going to only make 80 bucks a day taking restroom breaks (Still adjusting I know I need to drink less). I asked him where he wanted me to park in the rest area so I could call dispatch and he said "Hey it's on you" Thank you people. I feel now like I did the right thing. Haven't heard anything from a new trainer or dispatch. Could I be fired?
Big Don Thanks this. -
Do you mind sharing what company you work for Neon?

When he said he should "Slap you" you should have asked him if he was in a hurry to see the 40 virgins.
Oh wait that would have backfired on you. -
