Just curious to know if anybody is or has run the NE regional for Celadon? Was told descent hometime with about 80% drop and hook. Thinking about trying to get going to Indy possibly next week. Kind of on the fence about it. I have heard the orientation can be a bummer and they bring in drivers by the dozens only to have to sit and wait on a unit. Any advice or insight would be a big help. Thanks in advance.

My orientation experience went like this............It was too long, and at the end I had to ride to Carlisle, PA with six other guys to get my truck. I did not have to wait for a truck though.

I think there's a joke in here somewhere.
How many Celadon drivers does it take to get to Carlisle? No, that's not it....

Hey Thanks you guys for the imput. As far as that deal with loading up six guys, I had the samething happen with me at USX. Had to drive from Springield OH to Kearney NJ to get a truck that had been ragged out. I'm hoping to get in class on Wednesday. Unfortunately there are not alot of good driving jobs down here in "Slower lower Delaware". Good place to retire but the job market sucks around here. Looking forward to get onboard and see what Celadon has to offer.

It wasn't a fun ride. Most of the others in the van just wanted to screw around and get there whenever. All I wanted was to get in my truck and get away from them. I was the only one who got in my truck that night. The rest of them went to a hotel. Funniest part about it, I was the first one to get a load while they all sat and waited.

This says a lot about your work ethic. I probably would have done the same thing. Got into the truck, set my pta for first thing in the morning and went to bed.

I was waiting on a relay to arrive at the terminal a few days ago. Was told it would be there that night. I went to bed expecting to hook up to it and go in the morning. Woke up at 8...load still wasn't there yet. 6 hours later it arrived. Waited for him to get through the inspection bay then I started looking to see where it was dropped. Did a lap and couldn't find the trailer. On the way back up to the front I found the trailer...he was in the truck wash!

Sounds about right. I had a similar experience. Drove to Carlisle with a load that I was to drop there. There was a guy bringing a load from Indianapolis to Carlisle for me to take. He swore up and down he was going to drive all the way to Carlisle. Of course come the next morning, he was nowhere to be found. He wound up shutting down 2 hrs from Carlisle.

Here's a warning to all new drivers coming to Celadon. Weekend dispatch is staffed by persons whose personality clashes strongly with everyone else there. They also don't know how to make legal dispatches. Case in point this weekend. Coming back from vacation, my PTA was 0800 Saturday morning. Nothing. I sent a Qualcomm msg to call me when something comes up (It's not allowed to sit and "hang out" waiting for dispatch where I have to park my truck when at home). About 2000 (8 PM) I get a call from someone (nameless) who says I've been assigned a load. I drive 45 minutes from home to the truck to find that I'm expected to drive from southern Florida to just north of Atlanta (500 miles) for FREE (they call it an "empty move") pick up a load there before midnight (500 miles in 4 hours?) and then have it in West Virginia by 1500 (3 PM) the next afternoon, another 460+ miles up the road. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I sent them a load conformation that said basically there was NO WAY I COULD MEET THEIR SCHEDULED TIMES. I even sent a free form msg explaining that I'd been up since 0500 waiting on them and I was tired and sleepy. Their reply, which came around 0400 the following morning, okay we'll change the times but you need to leave asap. Oh, and they never called me back. I'm getting sick and tired of babying these people each and every weekend for the past year. Anyhow, they changed the times and dates twice more, each time being ridiculous in their expectations. They even told me I didn;t care about the customer. Hey, I care. But I'm not running illegal and getting fired for some jerk who only works weekends because he doesn't get along with others well. Be careful. Celadon IS NOT as "cool" as they present themselves to be!

A follow up this morning on this past weekends ruff times. The DM on the Qualcomm wasn't the same one that took my phone call. It seems that the DM on the Qualcomm refuses to take calls from drivers, especially after she does them every which way but right. But, after learning who it was, it figures. My DM says that since she gave me the exact times his fleet is "cared for" by her, simply don't Qualcomm in anything short of the truck burning up! And set my PTA out on her "every other weekend" so that I'm just not available for dispatch until Monday morning when he gets to work. He's cool. He's like me. Unless you start something, I'm laid back and easy going. Just remember that I'm a veteran with PTSD, and we'll get along fine. Oh, did I mention that I'm opening my own gunsmithing business here on the east coast? My friends thought a Christian Coffee Shop was a little strange. They're still walking around with a strange look on their faces over a Christian firearms business. Think I'll call it, "CROSS-hair FIREARMS: Shoot Straight and Tell No Lies." Have fun out there and stay safe!:smt066
