I made a mistake and need help/advise PLEASE

I did not get anything I was promised except for an abundant amount of "observation time".

The 1st week was classroom time. Was supposed to be 2. We would come in at 7:30 be given section of the CDL test and a cheat sheet of questions with answers that previous students told them would be on the CDL test. We were told to memorize the answers that went with the question. Then at 11 we were told to go to DPs and take that section of the test. The instructor was never in the room except to give us the cheat sheets. He did tell us that if we had a hard time on the test to call him on pur cellphone during the test if we could sneak it and he'd tell us the answer. I just barley passed all my tests.

The 2nd week we got in the truck and were told to do straight up straight back into a cars parking spot. He sat in he's car communicating on the walkie talkie to us while he played games on his iPad and would go back inside the school once and a while. This was split between 6 people. There are many times he would leave us alone in the truck and told us to continue.

3rd week was spring break we weren't told about until the Friday before.

4th week was parallel parking. We only leard 1 type of parallel and had to do it in a car parking spot. I still haven't mastered it because I had o share 4 hours with 6-8 people.

5th week we went on the road. We drove to DPs. Drove the route people take the test on and drove home. Split this between 6 people. I drove an average of 20 minutes a day. Never went on any other roads. Was told what markers on the ground to look for to do turns like a manhole or bricks. No actual theory. Just learned how to drive DPS route- which DPS even has written down and posted we are not allowed to do. Then after a few days maybe a few hours of actual on the road driving I was told I have to go to DPS and test out. I was not allowed to be a student any longer because we're only supposed to get 4 weeks of school.

The truck we learned on was an old automatic. I don't know how to drive stick, don't know any parts on a truck to do inspections, can't slide tandems, can't couple and uncouple. Can't drive on a road except the route because I don't know how to do turns.

I did acheive my CDL from the DPS but that's only because I memorized how to drive the route they test on.

I have no idea what to do now. Should I go to an orientation and hope to pass? Or should I pay money to go to another school? I was thinking Crowder and working at Con-Way.

Please help. I want to be a truck driver, but I feel I have been set up for failure.

Hi Ebola, I don't know if he sucked, it is a lot to take in, especially if you've never done anything like that. The thing I'm bamboozled about is the cost. Heck, maybe I should start a school. I could probably do better than that school. Um, maybe I won't, my blood pressure is high enough.

I live in Texas and they don't do that restriction here. When I signed up for the school I was told I would learn stick and only have a total of 2-3 people in my class. A lie.

At the school I am attending, there is a guy from TX that said the reason why he is attending our school is for this reason. He said trucking companies are becoming aware that the CDL schools in TX not training the students properly. Some companies are refusing to hire students from TX. That's why he ended up in WA state. Not sure why he didn't go to school in OK or LA or some place closer. Guess I am going to have to ask him. Don't know how true it is, but reading the OP experience, this may be true. The school is letting the student stay at the school in a back room, the office manager takes him to his gym after school to shower, gave him a set of keys to the building, so, he can run and get food, do laundry, ect. at night.

What school are you attending? All the students at mine complained. We went into the office several times to complain to teachers and school owner they basically shrugged their shoulders at us.

Hi zachery, whoa, is my face red, I'm really sorry, with a handle like zachery, I assumed, um, oh dear. I know several women drivers, and companies are trying hard to recruit women, because they make great drivers. Perhaps you can request a woman driver to learn more from, as I doubt any company will send you out solo, and might feel uncomfortable with a man. What ever you do, don't spend another dime on any school. It's time for seat time, and I'll bet you'll do fine. Good luck, again, sorry for the , you know.

If you are determined to attend another school, then look at Millis Transfer in Burleson, TX. Only need $500 to get started. Those drivers make over $50K per year. Drop by their office and talk to the administrator.
