1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Hey rwdfinch50. Glad to hear you are back out there. I am also from central Florida and exploring the idea of becoming an O/O, I keep hearing how bad frieght is in Florida so I have a question for you. Is it possible to make a decent living and get loads home to central Fla? All I read is how bad it is so its great to see a dry van O/O here in the area. Or is this a tougher area to be based ?

I'm not a o/o and I live in central Florida as well, but from what I have seen and also from a good close friend of mine. Their is a lot of freight that is in Florida, that does need to be moved in Florida. My friends cousin is a broker and he states that their is freight. So not to sure what everyone else is looking at. Also have seen in Florida a lot of o/o needed in this state.

I noticed the ads for O/O too. Hopefully your friend is correct. I dont want to leave the area but if I get my own truck I want to be based in a decent area

Congrats finch. That is good news!

As far as being an o/o in FL, it's very hard to make a good living here. When I pulled dry van, I'd fly home from Baltimore every couple weeks as it was cheaper than deadheading out during the slow season. I won't say don't do it, but don't sign away your house to be an o/o in FL

    crackinwise and Taino Thank this.

Thanks for the info. I keep hearing that about Fla and frieght. Im sure there is someone out there that is making it work somehow..lol. I was also considering flatbed and have seen a few flatbedders on the forum based in Florida.

I just read through your thread and wanted to give you a shout. I'm not gonna get into too much detail as this is public realm. I worked for landstar a few years ago so I don't know if i'd still be qualified but would be willing to give it a shot. I live in Iowa and am personal friends with the ranger agent in Cedar Rapids so getting qualified wouldn't be a problem. I owned my own company for 7 years with 7 trucks and 10 trailers so dispatching myself what ever wouldn't be a problem at all. I have 21 years OTR experience with a clean mvr and csa. Currently I'm a Pre Trip Inspection instructor at a local community college, but the school thing isn't for me. Obviously I can go into greater detail on the phone or in a email, but would like to talk with ya , depending of course if you are still looking for a driver.
