Thanks a lot LostSoulCal for your analysis on the per-diem pay that really breaks it down.

I am not satisfied with the analysis I did. I will be looking into this further and will post an update once I can make it clearer or more accurate.

on a positive note, if you got hired at Millis, you can probably get hired somewhere else. If anything like that ever comes up for me, I ask questions until their sick of me. Before doing anything I want to make sure I'm well informed. I'd weigh out my options too when considering quitting. Oh well, maybe something better will come along and you'll be more prepared about the per diem option

    twinrose Thanks this.

Hey i'm kinda in the same situation as you t bird but there are a few companies out there that are hiring drivers with limited or no experience. Is there something in particular youre looking for in a company maybe I could offer some suggestions because ive talked to just about all the major carriers during the past couple of weeks.

you did make a mistake, I just seperated from millis and my mileage pay (total $/total miles) was sitting at .61 for this year. granted it was only 2 months, but ending 2009 was .49 with bonuses and per diem pay. BTW unemployment is maxed with my income at $15,000.00 less on per diem. The talk about losing w/per diem only really effects AGI. If your depending on SSA for retirement you might want to rethink that plan, I don't expect to take SSA and as far as showing my income for a purchase of a home. $50,000.00 buys enough home for me.
You didn't mention Millis paying you vacation pay of $500.00 per week for non per diem as opposed to thier 52 week average for per diem, I was paid $1355.00 per week for vacation pay. did they change that to?

Yea So many YRC guys working there and going with the pay they want them too. There is a reason for that. Millis has to be making money on that somehow. I loked hard at them but came to same conclusion you did. Now with the Porn death, (NY) I don't think it's a wise move.
Who wants a YRC driver though?

There must be reasons they try to maneuver you into the per diem. Hopefully it is good for them and the driver.

Good Luck with your next company.
