I need a helping hand...don't all newbies

    What kind of head injury do you have???? There are bad places to start. Places that will burn you before you ever get a chance to make it. Places that will ding your DAC so you can not find anything else. Places that want the freight there at no cost... meaning your health, safety and others around you doesn't count. It is tough enough to get a good start and make it in trucking. Go in with the outlook of it doesn't matter and become one of the stats of bailed before I knew what happened or fired and can't get another driving gig....

    Well common sense and not getting wrapped up in the B.S. is a daily practice in the corrections industry (which I am currently in) so that isn't a problem and thanks for the straight forwardness! I really want that.

    I agree with LostSoul. People will hate Swift, JB Hunt and others and then you will find people who have been with them for years. It's all in your attitude. That being said, I would think if you're starting out fresh, go with a large, well known company, have a good attitude and you will be okay. A big company will probably be less likely to give you problems if you're a good employee.
    Also, stay with that company for at least a year. Good companies don't want drivers who job-hop all over the place.

    Hortonclutch, the BS in corrections and trucking may be different. In corrections th BS is probably more by the numbers, like a bowl of spagetti. A lot of curvy mixed up lines. In trucking it is more like a bowl of oatmeal. Just mush, you can't tell where it starts or where it ends. However, your conditioning is important in either case.

    For those coming out of school, it's pretty frustrating. Visit some forums and you hear tons of bad stuff about this carrier and that carrier. You want to make an educated decision. Please remember that most will post their bad experiences and those with good experiences don't usually post. You'll find good and bad with any carrier, bar none. The goal is to get you on the road, gain experience to where you'll become much more marketable on your own in a year or so.

    If you have the time, visit facilities and talk with drivers at truck stops, not the drivers recruiters suggest you talk to. Go with your gut and run with the company you're most comfortable with. It's not like you have to spend your entire career (unless you love it) with that particular carrier.
