Schneider has the best training program in the industry right now, 14 straight days of classroom/truck instruction, they have very expensive simulators to help you get an idea of different scenarios (blowing a steer tire and things like that) i did the 14 day training I started on swp 27th, went out with a trainer for 10 days, and did my skills qualification test and passed, earlier today they prepped me for the CDL road test (taking it on wed, the 31st)

the bulk guys get a whole different set of training, they spend an extra week in Lousiana, but for the month that i've been associated with SNI so far i cant really complain, they've treated me good so far and anytime i had problems they got things worked out for me.

Yeah,I think they are the only company that hires students for tanker positions. They seem to start you out with decent pay doin bulk.I put in an application for maverick a bit ago.i dont know if I will get it though. You need to have a job that you had atleast 1 year.I told them about my year in Iraq and the six months I was in basic and AIT.The lady wasnt sure if that counted.I think that should show that you had enough dedication, atleast for a year and a half lol.I live in a town where it is mostly factory jobs that lay you off alot.I dont know what kind of work history they expect you to have at the age of 23?If I had a job around here that I could stay at for a year, then it would then that would mean it would be a good job and I wouldnt even bother driving trucks.I dont know,it didnt strike me as a vet friendly place..I appricciate the advice you guys gave me on shcneider.I will give them a call tommorrow....

Having been in the trucking industry for 16 years as follows: Driver - 8 years / Recruiter - 5 years / Terminal Manager -3 years - I believe that U.S. Xpress would be a good selection for you if:

    1) You are willing to stay away from home 10-14 days at a time.

    2) You want to work for a large company where you will be a number and not a name.

As far as entry level employers go - US Xpress is one of the higher regarded companies. Of course you will hear bad things about all companies - no company can please everyone. Remember one thing - A truck driver complains if they cannot think of anything else to say (myself included).

Iraqvet, I too am a vet currently doing time in Iraq. I am in the Air Force Reserves. At home I drive for a company out of Spokane WA. They have a flatbed, reefer, tanker, heavyhaul, polehaul and boathaul divisions. I am on a flatbed. If I remember correctly, you can get hired there if you can get one of your military supervisors to sign a letter that you are qualified and have been driving a flatbed for them for over 6 months straight. You wil still have to attend orientation for about a week and do a road test but that is no big deal (if you have your CDL). They have OTR and regional positions. They always make sure that I get back to my base for my weekend drills and when I got called to come over here they had no problems with it at all. I get 35% of the gross plus oversize pay when applicable. Tarp pay is $25.00. detention after 3 hours in most cases. I've been pretty happy with them personally. You might try and look them up.
Trans-System out of Spokane WA. Good Luck!

Blume is owned by Roehl, which if you check the forum gets pretty high marks.

Hey gettin-by,I should have mentioned I am in Ohio.I am probably outside their hiring area?Right now I am talking to Paschall truck lines.I was talking to maverick, but its a no go.They company that I had quit workin for in July told them I was a no show for work. They wanted to send me out on a load with a 55,000 pound coil to Rhode island! After only ONE week of training!!I told them I was not coming in the next morning to take that load!So yeah mav believed them over me.I have stable work history and 4 years in the reserves and still currently enlisted. One of those years was 368 days in Iraq.Oh well, let them hire people who have never done flatbedding or drivin a truck outside of school. Those guys will quit and it will be their loss lol..

Nope, you are not outside their hiring area. as a matter of fact we have a whole lot of loads that go thru and all around Ohio. Good luck with your searches.

Well you were a no show for work and even told them you were not coming in. So why should they not believe them? A lot of companies are forced dispatch and you have nothing to say about it if you want to drive for them.
