A few things from somebody who's lost 100 pounds recently...
-Make changes slowly. Trying to do too much at once can be overwhelming and lead to ultimate failure. Instead of trying to make a whole bunch of changes at once, focus on one or two manageable things. Once those changes become habit (generally two to three weeks), pick another couple things to change, and repeat until all the things you want to change have become habit.
-Withdrawing from caffeine will be hell. You don't have to punish yourself. You can switch to black coffee or unsweetened tea and still get the caffeine without getting all the calories from the sugars. Leading back into point number one, I would drink as much caffeine as you need at the beginning to stave off the cravings so you don't feel tempted to go back to the sugary sodas.
-Diet drinks have their own health risks. I drink Diet Coke myself, but with all things, moderation is the key. I'm failing on that point, but I'm working on it.
-Getting enough cardio as a driver is difficult. There are little things you can do to add steps to your day, like parking farther back, or taking a couple laps around the truck stop if you have time.
-Muscles burn more calories than fat does, both at rest and while working. It's kind of a double whammy there. If you have to choose between cardio or weight training/body conditioning, go for the weights.
-Expect set backs. Making lifestyle changes is difficult. If you experience a set back, forgive yourself and go back to making those positive habits as soon as you realize you've fallen back into bad habits. Don't spend any emotional energy berating yourself for "failing". As long as you keep going back to the good habits, you haven't failed at all.stuge and texasbbqbest Thank this. -
Adamrocks: I don't have time tonight to read the replies, but thought I'd respond because I kicked a fairly severe soda habit myself. I would typically have a half dozen sodas per day. I bought a soda stream. They are about $70. After I carbonate, I put about 4 drops of lemon and 4 drops of lime in each bottle. I can't tell you the last time I had a soda - it's been months. Last time I tried one, I ended up throwing most of it away.
Always make sure you have it made, so that it's as easy as grabbing a soda. Now, it's all I drink. I'm healthier, and save a bunch money to boot.
My apologies if someone else has given this advise, just wanted to pass along what worked for me.
Good luck. -
Yeah I use the coke zeros when I decide I want my jack and coke when im home weekly. Mixed they dont taste much different, by themselves though I prefer to not drink soda at all since I dont care for diet much.

Just to give an update, I've been doing good going on about 4 days but the last two I've had no soda at all... The first two I just had 1 soda. I think I can do this, I also bought some strawberry crush packets to put into water for flavor which is only 10cal... Thanks everyone for the support.. I honestly had no idea this topic would blow up like it has lol

I gave up soda years ago and started drinking sweetened home made tea.. Than slowly cut back on the sugar until now a days I can't stand sugar in my Tea.Than because I was drinking so much of it because I am a compulsive drinker I started making really weak suntea in a bottle and than poured it over ice and chew my ice.
That was all before I started putting on weight years ago.
I was up to 243 from good home cooking and too much goodtimes and went on a low carb diet 3 years ago. I lost 40 pounds over 2 years drinking Select 55 for my beer and watching my Carb intake.I ate a lot of eggs and meats and salads. But if I craved a pizza I would eat it. i never denied myself any sins.
If I was out at a real bar I would drink a real beer but when I was out fishing Select 55 was in the cooler.
It/s a way of life.
By the way i been sitting around lately and eating way to many carbs and drinking Miller high Life instead of the 55 and I put 15 pounds back on.
It was a experiment . Time to get back to my good habits. -
didnt read the replies. only the question.
i was a MAJOR mtn dew junkie. i used to grab 2 from the fridge when it was time to start my shift, then drink several more thru out my shift of driving. that was what i took just to wake up..usually gone in the first hour.
i switched to drinking flavored water. Dasani Drops Flavor Enhancer. i call em Water Drops. Usually in the juice aisle at wal mart. can squeeze easliy into bottled water or into a glass when you are at home or hotel for time off.
had a bad headache withdrawl coming off the mtn dew but survived.
the water drops come in several flavors. i drink the strawberry kiwi. that is my "fix" now and i am mtn dew free...lol cost about $3.39 a bottle here . i stock up and buy 6 or more bottles at a time since that seems to be a popular flavor. no caffeine either , so better than switching to coffee. you can squeeze a little or a lot til you determine how you like it... ZERO calories, no sodium, no carbs, no sugar, doesnt need to be in the fridge and has no aspartame which you will find in diet soda.and artificial sweet. that stuff is BAD NEWS....and of course water has ZERO calories too. i have tried the flavored water at the TS and didnt care for any of them. i love this stuff tho..and it seriously cures my fix.... -
Weight gain is one of the perils of marrying a woman that loves to cook. My wife is from the south and loves to make all the traditional delicious dishes that can pack on the pounds. For the last two years though she has been experimenting with ways to cut calorie content in her cooking without sacrificing (much) taste. She's dropped twenty pounds as well, so it's working. But I will never, ever, ever give up her buttermilk biscuits.

vitamain B pills from Walmart will provide the cheapest non addictive nor harmful energy you can buy.
And if all else fails ZipFiz additives from Costco at 30 for 25 bucks is one hell of a stimulant. All it is ,is a concentrated Vitamin B that is about a 1000 times more that the daily allowance. Not harmful from what I have researched.
