    skateboards....truckers terms for flatbed trailers.

also, with that $1.40/mile, you also have to have your own maintence account set up. you pay for your fuel, etc. Most owner/operators (O/O) have a "cents per mile" taken right out of their pay. So say you put in some years, and you're making $1.40/mi, lets then take out 20 cents a mile for your maintence account. then you've gotta pay for your fuel (note sure if movers get a fuel surcharge, but lets juts assume they do.) and your truck payment. If you get a really good rate, your truck payment will run, lets say $500/week. Yes, i said WEEK. that is $2000 a month. After all said and done, you MIGHT make a couple hundred more than a company driver.

Being an O/O has quite a few more challenges than just being a company driver.

I'd rather have that challenge than to deal with some of those DM's company drivers deal with....:biggrin_2551:

I don't plan on being an Owner Operator until im like sure I'll stay with this through to the end. like 1 year? not enough to convince me. 2 years? maybe. 3 years? hell yeah!

You know what would be real interesting? To see how much the trucking industry has changed by the time you are 21! I wonder if the flying cars will be in mass production by then? Maybe they'll have flying trucks. One thing that won't change for sure is working for bedbugger. That has to be the worst trucking field! They are hardworkers for sure though!
