They are probably not responding because you have a long ways to go before you need to worry about which company to work for.

In trucking you will realize that its not just driving a truck you have to worry about, their are tons of regulations, you have to pay attention all around you because in a blink you can be in accident because of some bad driver out there, the weather, mechanical failure (truck and trailer), blowouts, jackknife etc.

Their is paperwork you have to fill out daily, their is a certain way you need to conduct business so you protect yourself, when your away from your family for long periods of time it gets old fast. Bad weather, bad roads, you have to deal with DOT. Their are a lot of things that make trucking tough on the mind, body and soul.

Go to school get a business degree then get into trucking, if trucking didnt work out for you then you can fall back on your degree and get a well paying job. You dont want to be enslaved the rest of your life to the road. You need to be smart with your life you only have one to life. You need to get a job where you have enough to pay the bills, a little extra to spend on whatever, plus put some in a retirement account.

Matthew,, all of the drivers here are 100 % correct on the schooling.. there are so many things you dont know about trucking as well as the slow times of year on frieght. There are so many rules on the trucking industry it would make your head spin if you read them all. Plus there are many changes being made in states like california on emmissions meaning exaust from the trucks and filters they want to put on them at a great cost to the companies and o/os. Stay in school get a degree that will keep you going when maybe other careers may be failing. as one poster said in the summer time find a friend or relative with a truck and ask to ride along for a couple weeks or so and see how many times you dont get to shower, or stop to eat, or take time to sight see, trucks and drivers are all on a schedule to get from point a to point b and most times its a darn tight one, then if there isnt a load you sit in a truck stop, you dont take the truck and go sight seeing, companies dont allow that. also the companies that dont like idle time to keep you warm or cool but wont buy a apu unit to put on the truck or any other means to keep warm or cool. so think about it, school dont sound to bad. if i had the money to go now thats where i would be, wish i had done it a long time ago,, like you as a teen i had the same thought,, only i worked with my father where trucks rolled in and out all the time, i got the fever and have driven over the road, i can do it but dont like it much,, local is more my thing but most are seasonal jobs being local. So take your time you have lots of time to be a teen and a kid live that life before trying to be an adult. beleive me you will miss being a kid.

I came on here for a reason. Not to be ignored because I'm just a kid. Or "cherish" your childhood speeches. I came on here to be prepared for what I want most. Not to be told that what I want is a low class thing that should be avoided at all times.
