newbe71, its the insurance companies nowadays that have companies in that spot. They won't hire you if they consider you a risk...silly but its the world we live in now. I'm 63 years old and retired....I was just checking into doing some part time work here where I live for an independent mail hauler/contractor, you know maybe a couple trips a month til deer season opens up....contractor is a good friend and said he had no problem at all , since he knows that I had a 33 year career of safe driving with zero accidents. He said go get your physical card and we'll put you to work......called me later that evening and told me his insurance carrier wanted me to take a "refresher course" at the local community college. I decided to go fishing instead.....don't need the money that bad anyhow. But just to show you how silly its become out here.
Like Bulletproof and Tonytruckerdude mentioned, unless you go through an accredited school of some sorts you are going to pay hell getting hired on anywhere. Especially with an owner operator that has to pay their own insurance! If someone does decide to insure you the cost would be outrageous! The large companies aren't going to touch you either so you are going to have a very tough time finding a driving job. Maybe back about 20 years ago you could have done this but nowadays the insurance companies make it #### near impossible! Do yourself a huge favor and go about getting your license the right way the first time and you will save a lot of time and money!
