If flat beds is what you want to do, do not take your good clothes with you, you will ruin them, take your older clothes with you. I know, i'm a flat bedder myself having pulled them for quite sometime now. It's alot of physical work. It will keep you active and keep you in shape, you will get dirty quite often throwing chains, straps, tarps and climbing up and down off that flat bed or step deck, whatever your pulling. If none of what i have written bothers you, then go for it and try it. Best of luck to you in all your endeavors.

jermo Mavericks a good company but they are an over the road company. You are going to be running 6-8 weeks at a time out there. Don't let anyone promise you any less just to get you to sign up. They are a great company as long as you are planning on putting in your time over the road for at least a year. At least you won't have a huge school loan though.

Its tough out there man. I have 16 years of experience and chose to go back over the road just because I can't find diddly squat for local work. Yes there are some positions here and there but pay out about $300-400 gross a week. That's gas and food at my house!

At the very least if you are committed to doing this then stick it out. It will be tough to get used to at first but eventually you will get used to things out there. You are going to miss lots of birthdays, holidays, funerals etc... but that's all part of it. Currently I am scheduled to work through Thanksgiving and Xmas! I do get a little more time off then normal but its during the week and my son is in school this time of year. However I was able to afford to take him on a surf trip to Nicaragua before he went back to school so that is a plus as far as otr driving.

On the bright side school and training should be a blast for you! I really had a lot of fun during that part of the adventure. One thing you have going into this that I didn't and that's the know how to drive in snow and ice! Make sure you physically know how to throw chains before you get out of your trainers truck. This will be very helpful. Only other little tid bit I can offer for flatbedding is to be very weary of what is near and or above you when you are standing on top of your load tarping it. I have come very close to unknowingly touching powerlines with my head once!

    Good luck man....
