Trucking has a way of kicking you in the ###. You might have weeks that are great and then the perfect s### storm happens and you spend all your downtime looking for a better gig.

Case in point, I pick up a load at noon today in Minot, ND. Neither my Rand McNally GPS nor Google Maps can find the address. I tried searching for the customer name while in Google Maps and got two locations. One is downtown and obviously bad, the other is north of town but business names don't match the customer. I ended up calling the customer and he confirmed it is north of town, but a brand new business park. That's why Street View showed buildings under construction.

Always know exactly how to get in and out of your customer. Swift Qualcomm addresses frequently are for the office, not the truck entrance, and that can make a huge difference in how you approach the customer. Sometimes you need to go a completely different way. Google Street View can show you the sign in front of the office that says, "NO TRUCKS!!! TRUCK ENTRANCE IS ON 10TH STREET!!!"

another good thing about google maps is the live traffic data. Can really help you when going through a major city. Don't forget to also use an atlas to verify your routing. I cant count how many times my gps has failed or shut down right before I need to make a turn or it tried sending me down some back country road that was not ment for trucks.

    Thull Thanks this.
