He should tell em that he done ate Roller Dogs and them suckers went right thru him like butter thru a pup... He was jest in a hurry ta find a john to park hisself at an that durned sign jumped right out in front a his trailer...

You didn't want to call the cops. You didn't want to take out a sign.

You didn't need to take out a sign. You did need to report it once it happened.

Missing stop sign means people don't stop. Collisions happen, people die.

Calling the cops isn't optional. You did what you had to do.
