I wouldn't if I was in his position. It wasn't a DOT reportable test, and if he wasn't employed by the company yet, then they're not going to find out through employment verification.

    FCMSA FAQ

'May employers report the results of non-DOT drug and alcohol tests?'

No. Only results of DOT drug or alcohol tests or refusals may be reported to the Clearinghouse. While employers may conduct drug and alcohol testing that is outside the scope of the DOT testing requirements, positive test results or refusals for non-DOT testing may not be reported to the Clearinghouse.

If you weren't an employee of a company, then try again and don't mention it.
    Try a private cdl school.
Stevens Transport does urine test and hires from 48 states.

So were you aware that you were in for a hair follicle test? Most people can like you say if its been a few months pass a urine test however the THC makes everyone an honest Joe, that's the reason why companies will use this form of testing is it sorts out those who've been on drugs for a while, bottom line is it does not mean your future career is over, however it does mean that you may need to wait a while before you get your CDL and start driving for a company, perhaps before you go through it again get your own THC test done independently to be absolutely sure your in the clear, we all make mistakes provided we learn from them its all good.

In my state the CDL classes at the community colleges are affordable $1,500 . And free with WOIA grants .
And you won’t be an indentured servant to a company for 12 months .

the state run CDL classes do have a waiting list .

and not to pile on , but stop smoking pot .
That’s stuff just rots your brain .

Whatever you do, find an employer that will hire you BEFORE you consider going to any CDL school. Most CDL schools will turn you away if your driving record, criminal record, or drug test is bad because they know you probably aren't getting a job and not getting a job shows up on the school's report card.

If the people that used drugs in the industry can eventually get hired somewhere then you can also. Not to scold you, what's done is done, but it seems like half of the people coming to the message board for advice are always coming AFTER they make some mistake and then trying to clean up the problem. I always like to find out who, what, where, when, and how about the next thing I need to do before I do it.

The hair follicle test isn't YET an official DOT drug screen, the urine analysis is. All of this could have been avoided if you waited maybe another 2 months before taking the hair test. And waiting 2 months is going to be a LOT cheaper and easier, I bet, than what happens to fix this problem you are facing. Don't give up hope, maybe there is an easier fix. Also, avoid CBD no matter who promises you it has no THC, or not enough to count. Those words from someone selling THC are not going to fix a dirty drug screen if that CBD has THC.

How do you know the OP is the only person to know about failing the hair test? I don't know the full details of the full system set up to report preemployment drug screen. I'm assuming since hair follicle testing is not FMCSA it MAY not be in the clearinghouse system. That's too much unknown for me. There may be some system to track applications of drivers or students and if company checks with the company that required a hair test you don't just not get the job you wind up with "trying to hide dirty test" on TOP of having the dirty test.

It's just so easy to avoid this situation, even if one smoked, never hurt anyone, stopped, and will one day be the best driver in the industry. Know what you are walking into BEFORE you walk into it. It used to be standard advice here 30-60 days clean to guarantee passing a urine test and 6 months clean, no matter how much you smoked, to pass a hair test. Or don't use.

Some trucking jobs pay like a job at McDonald's but getting hired is very different than getting hired at McDonald's

My reply to you sounded more harsh than I meant. What I should have said, in a more polite manner, was once the event happened only someone that KNOWS everything about the industry drug screen topic can be sure the result of the failed hair test isn't reported elsewhere the next employer can read. By trying to cover-up the result, hair test is not FMCSA required, he could make his situation worse. I sure hope you know I was never demanding you or the OP know everything or that it was a bad question to ask. You contribute quality answers and I'm glad all of us have a place to try to help others. I'm sorry I sounded like a *ick.
