My advice for your husband is to run away from England. They will continue to screw him over. England is totally incompentent!!

I agree with two-thirds of your post, Drvrtech, but I don't believe for a minute that C.R.E. is totally incompetent.
Incompetence would suggest a lack of knowledge or awareness or understanding, -- an inability

The number one goal with any company, including C.R. England, is to turn a profit, and C.R.E. has devised methods other than moving freight to stay out of the red ink. Unfortunately, those methods don't include considering the well-being of their employees who drive the Big trucks. If C.R.E. had any concern for their drivers, you'd think they would have revised their methods by now. To my knowledge, it's business as usual, and for C.R.E., business seems to be good.

I two feel for the fancy words, actually i went to their school just because NO Money Down, 120 hour Skewl...I made it EASILY!!!, it was alot of b/s, the actual class was the worst part for me. Driving was the easiest...

Stayed in a really crackhead motel...but hey i have partied in worse in my high school days...Lot Lizards walking the halls, tv has 2 channels. Bed Bugs!!!...i never slept under the motel blanket...It was so Crime Ridden, that the local police department had a 11pm to 5am detail Everynight.

We started with ****148 people****, crazy right??......There was only 38 left at the end! Hair Folice(sp) drug test, stupid physical, not having 20/40 vision. Some folks were just plain stupid, some folks were book smart, but could not back up in a straight line. Or shift?

Dot road test was easy. So were the Written test. Got a Class A

Had to wait 1 week at the motel for trainer to pick me up@25/day. Wow, i think i can feed atleast 1 of my 3 kids with that.

Got into the trainers truck, Drove 32 hours my first 3 days, while my non-shower taken trainer watched john wayne movies in the berth. He sometimes tried to play a guitar he musta bought at walmart...I think it was alittle outta tune----werid fellow

Stopd at a T/S 45 miles from home...Sent DM a QC msg and made up a family emergency story....Called my brother, and left the trainer---i did shake his hand, outta my being raised right respect---

POINT IS!!!!!!------CRE is going to USE You,,,,,,,Return the Favor

That was a handful of days ago. I'm currently looking at the following companies due to this site.

    Watkins-Shepard
    TMC (im strong willed-i think)
    Builders Transportation

I have read this thread and the previous thread posted by Rolling Thunder. I too have a bus ticket pending with CRE. Now mind you this was before reading these threads. What in the h### now?!

Let me clear some things up a bit. I was told by a friend that if I had a class A CDL his company would hire me. GREAT! I have been unemployed for a year now and the opportunity for a job was a god send. So I do a quick study and pass the written easily. I then pay a company $450 so I can use their truck to take the driving test, also passed first try no problem. So I now hold a class A CDL but I can't work for that company. Why? Apparently you need 2 years OTR experience before any trucking companies will hire you. I have learned this is because of the insurance companies. In order to go to work for any of the companies they want you to go to truck driving school before hand. Why?? WT#! :( You go to school to get the CDL.. I have that. CRE is the only company so far (I have called dozens and been told sorry we can't help you, or they just hang up) that has given me the time of day. So for the last month I have been driving a dump truck. Even that was short lived, work dried up.

Help! I keep hearing how crappy this company is but how the heck do you get anywhere?! I am open to any and all suggestions. I cannot afford to go to a "school" to get what I already have and not get paid anything for a month. I have a family to care for. Thanks for listening. :)

First of all, you are right in that the insurance industry requires two years experience in order for most companies to be able to hire you.
Training companies, i.e. Hunt, Swift, England, Stevens, et al, are self insured and able to hire you on board.
They require 168 hours of schooling before they will let you behind the wheel. Just the way it is.
So you need to either attend CDL school, or take a 'refresher' course some of these companies offer, and commit to X amount of time working for them to have that cost forgiven.
Now the good news: Most states will pay your full tuition to a private CDL school if you are unemployed. It is one of the oft used benefits from the federal govt to get people back to work.
Check with your state unemployment office to see if you qualify.
Also, if you are a veteran, you may be eligible for schooling. Check with the VA.
The only other way around this whole mess is to find a small company, often an O/O that will hire you. These are usually fleets of 5 or less.
Gain time an experience with that employer, then use that to get on with other companies.
    Good luck.
