The best use for them is in the winter time to lay them on the ground at the nose of a trailer where you are going to be hooking up. Either side of the king pin, back up onto them, hook up, drive off. No more spinning on ice and snow from a dead stop. Just be sure to retrieve them for reuse and of course not to litter. Wicked good traction though.91B20H8 and truckdriver31 Thank this.

I just use my lockers, it is very rare I have any trouble, and if I can get it started under at all, then with the weight on the rear I can generally just ease on back. lol
Swine hauler Thanks this. -
Depends on if the trailer is froze in. If I use my lockers and the trailer doesn't move then you're screwed because you may not be able to get away from it if you've shined up the ice under all 4 drivers. So I try to save my lockers for an escape hatch.
I have some old cow mats from the barn that laid down on the ice work great, you can't spin down through them and the purchase is like being on gravel. But at 125 lbs i don't have ### enough to lug them to far. -
Pretty good idea. I'll have to throw some short chain pieces in the side box!. What do you use for hose? Fire hose?

By froze in, are you talking about the landing gear froze to the ground, or the trailer drums froze, I run in to both on a regular basis. Generally if the trailer is too low, the landing gear breaks loose when I get under it, if it is too high and I have to lower it, which I run into more and they are froze down, usually a few taps with a short handled sledge breaks them loose, the same with the brakes, which is even more often. lol
