Carry some sort of flares in case your load spills at night. I almost hit someone's stuff going down the mountain tonight, luckily I was taking my time, but FedEx in front of me wasn't fortunate enough.
I think you flatbedders should....

I keep 3 flares in addition to the required 3 triangles. I agree. If something really happened I want more than triangles.

I would be more concerned about coming up on a FedEx turned over and blocking the road than a flatbed losing it load.
Don't remember the last time I saw a flat rack lose part of a load, but FedEx is a different story.SemperFiServices, Highway Sailor, DrFlush and 6 others Thank this. -
Just what was in the road?
-
Not sure, it looked like a metal green piece of fence with edges sticking out.
-
And you know for a fact that it came off of a flatbed rather than a pickup truck?
Highway Sailor, Broke Down 69 and cnsper Thank this. -
This happened on I80 eb after salt lake city, you know those curves you have to go down. The flatbad was parked, he had beams on a trailer and green metal scattered on right hand of the highway.
-
I had 2 small pieces come off my flat once. I ran over it with the truck and trailer. I blew 2 tires and ruined the piece. I never should of had it on a flat to begin with. That load belonged in a van trailer. I stoped and got it out of the road immediately! Had to buy 2 tires and pay for a new part to be made.
Lesson learned -
How near to the truck was the spilled load? Why weren't you slowing down if you could see the stopped truck?
Broke Down 69 Thanks this. -
Right next to it, I was climbing down at 40 mph.
