If I were you I'd down load the list of trucking companies in your area, scratch off the ones you'd never go to and get out and go see them. Be honest up front and you never know you might get lucky. You could be doing that while a lawyer works on getting your points down. Whatever you do don't let some recruiter do the finding for you. To them you're just a number and it's much better anyway to see a company face to face. Good luck.
When it comes to Trucking Schools they could care less about your driving record all they want is your money. Before anyone should waste the money on school. talk to recruiters it don't cost anything to call a 800 number. And you can go to any truckstop and pick up all kinds of books that have the companies listed and if they hire Newbies (the books are free to) If you have points on your licenses felonies DUIs and some misdemenors you may not get hired and then you are out the money you spent on the school. And the schools will not refund your money all they promise you is that they will assist in finding you a job. And once you fill out one application with a company that they have given you the they have fulfilled they part of the aggrement
this point thing keeps me confused . every1 seems to have a different system for them . according to the va dmv i have 1 positive point. according to trans am i have 12. swift says 18. wtf??? i dunno why i even care anymore. i make 800 - 1000 a week just delivering subpoenas. i just want to be able to use this lil piece of plastic i paid 6000 for i guess. and yes i think it is f-in retarded i was not given the truth when i went to my school. i called them and they said tough #### . they say the law prohibits them from denying anybody. i think its a crock. driving school has become just another gd scam.
u need to be riding a bicycle my friend with all them points..adjust your speed apparently the trucking company figures are correct...where do you drive so i can stay out of that area. just kidding...
It is my guess they are all going "back" a different length of time...... States tend to only go back 3 years or less and may count/take off points for a school or program you went to? The carriers may be going back 5 years for the 12 points and 10 years for the 18 points? Just a guess......... You might want to do some more research on that....... there were some rules/guidelines/laws enacted a while back that affect the schools...... look under the words, "ability to benefit" as well as DOT Regulations regarding schools (sections in 380.?) I'm too tired to go look.... but you should.... if they did not follow DOT or local laws then you might be able to sue them in small claims court and get your money back.......
thanks guys. u've been pretty helpful. i am now looking to file suit against my cdl mill. this stuff needs to stop . i believed them and i feel like an idiot now
typical irresponsible, American cry baby. "i am now looking to file suit against my cdl mill." for what exactly? why don't you just say "I'm an immature loser with a jaw droppingly horrific driving record and I can't get a job because of it. so I'm going to sue the school I went to, even though they have NOTHING to do with the fact that I'm unemployable." I don't blame ANY of the companies for not wanting to hire you. I wouldn't hire you to shovel ####. you need an attitude adjustment. "this stuff needs to stop" what does? your reckless driving? speeding? running lights/stop signs? your reluctance to accept responsibility for your own actions????
There is a term in law that is something like "Superior Knowledge"...... basically it is illegal to take advantage of people if you are considered an "expert" in your field......... in applies to all professions...... it is what kept me from getting my brokers license when I was in real estate...... if I had made money on a deal (as a broker) and the homeowner/seller/buyer had sued me for superior knowledge, I could end up having to give them my profits.... and then some...... I think it is reasonable to expect an educational institution (and, yes, I am using that term VERY loosely) to inform their prospective students of the facts...... We have another wannabe who is checking out Roadmaster right now and they gave him a form to sign that explained exactly what this poster apparently was not told............ IMHO...this poster should have at least been warned........ http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...s/45844-placement-waiver-from-roadmaster.html
"it is illegal to take advantage of people if you are considered an "expert" in your field." uh, yeh - good luck getting a conviction with that. there's also something called "due diligience." in other words, you need to have some idea of what the f you're getting yourself into. this cat has 18 points on his driver's license and didn't think about that before going to truck driving school??? you honestly think the school should tell him that if he has a trashed driving record that he might have a hard time getting a job slinging a 40 ton rig around?? that's like trying to get a job as a baby sitter if you have a long rap sheet with convictions for pedophillia. maybe the school should also ask potential drivers if they're stupid, lazy illiterate? they should ask them if they actually want to drive a truck, work 15 hours a day, and be gone from home for weeks at a time? please. NO company is going to try to talk themselves out of a sale/customer/student.
