And he wasn’t a slave working here on a visa for a company that literally held his freedom in the palm of their hand and therefore he was free to make good decisions without fear of being deported.

And the people in the vehicles around him could’ve been his family. He took care to watch out for them, saving countless lives every day when they didn’t even know they were putting themselves in danger. Today, those lives are worth no more to the trucker that the bugs that get splattered on his windshield.

Putting Elogs and speed limiters in the truck will make all those unspeakable little side effects go away. Safety first. Level playing field for the evil small trucking company. Yeah.

It was a major advantage being a private fleet hauling one way and deadheading back. You called and got your load, they told you the first stop and what time they opened. I always waited to leave out to where I could get to my first stop between 10pm-12am and go to bed at the store ready to get up when they opened.

Wake up, kick my stops off, then drive all the way back or go as far as I felt like. All trips were at most two day turnarounds. In all my years of driving, I can only count on one hand the times I needed to take a nap. Usually it was to wait for rush hour to die down.

If you needed naps then you probably have sleep apnea.

Less than five naps due to traffic in all my years driving? Yeah, I don’t have sleep apnea.

I doubt the DOT inspectors really look closely at the big carriers who have been using ELDS for several years. I have been with this company for 16 years, we have been on ELDs for the past 11 years. I can count on one hand how many dot inspections that included looking at the logs and have a couple of spare fingers left.
