For what it's worth... working on 27 years in this Cesspool industry. I agree with this post 110%. Thread after thread post after post on this forum, warning potential new drivers of this scam called lease purchase. Almost daily somebody is posting their bad experience of a lease purchase. Almost daily us experienced drivers Warn of how bad of a pitfall this scam is. And yet I am still totally amazed of how many people fall for it. I have even heard of cases where companies tell new drivers that that is the only way they can get started in this industry. BULL!!! BULLS^!t !!! How many?..... just how many are going to have to fail and post on this site just how bad they got the screws put to them before people open their eyes? Listen new drivers. You do not have to do a lease purchase. For God's sake if you have to if that is your only choice is to go to work for a mega carrier to get your start in this field , do it but only do it to get your one year AND STAY OUT OF A L/P .. And then leave, leave as fast as you can, find a decent company. My opinion of a decent company is private carriers. As ashamed as I am to say it I have had more driving jobs that any person should be allowed to have. I have finally found my resting place at my current job as long as my health will allow and as long as they will have me I will retire at my current company. But it took me a long time to find it, or maybe maybe I just wasn't looking in the right place to begin with. I have never worked for a Mega company. The two largest companies I have ever worked for had maybe five hundred trucks. I have worked for owner operators ( and got screwed over every time). I have worked for small outfits with as little as 10 trucks and really enjoyed my time there but the pay and the benefits just wasn't enough. I worked for a private carrier 20 years ago, that I would probably still be with today if they had not went out of business, when that company went out of business I went to work for another private carrier. I would probably still be with them except they sold out to somebody that I would not for nothing in the world work for. Then I started going from Pillar To Post trying to find the balance between decent pay, benefits, and a decent retirement, I finally found it. to keep this from sounding like a recruiting ad if you want to know who it is I work for, you can search through my past posts. I will keep the name of the company anonymous. otherwise, just so this does not sound like another recruiting ad.
Get you a year experience. Do some thorough research. Private fleets, LTL companies, good driving jobs are out there, great driving jobs are out there, and yes even excellent driving jobs are out there, which one do you want to work for? Do I have the best driving job in the world? Probably not. but it's the best one for me. Long and short. Do not do a lease purchase. And get away from the bottom feeder Mega company as soon as you can. And then maybe just maybe you might have a future in this industry.

If they would just add the numbers they would see the pay is not much different from company pay

U.S. diesel prices decline for the 15th consecutive week, reports EIA
With a 2.7-cent decline, this week’s national diesel average came in at $2.480. This is a lower sequential decline compared to the four previous weeks, which saw declines of 4.1 cents, 3.8-cent, 7.3-cents, and 8.1-cents, respectively.

The West Texas Intermediate declined thru zero and went negative! Double-check your fuel cost! I will return with a full analysis of what your cost should look like. No way an independent driver should be taking a loss!
