Talked to the driver when he was screwing this up. The oversize got hung up and he tried to pull him out. Pulling chain was hooked onto one of the load chains. He is now missing a stake pocket. Then they repositioned the truck and his chain reproduced into two chains. :bang:
Oversize is awaiting a 24 hour wrecker service that won't answer their phone on a Sunday

I mentioned to the driver that his tail lights were not visible, he just shrugged his shoulders and said his permits say he's good to go.
BTW, the driver hauling this oversize is only getting paid .50 per mile
As I saw him leaving I was thinking to myself "Gas on it!! Gas on it!! **SCRAPE* OHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I knew you should have gassed on it"![]()
I Wouldn't Haul This....

BINGO ..... RBHT is missing the point of the safety issue. It's not that the load is hanging off the back, done that many many ties, it's the fact that the load is blocking his tail lights 100%.
By going your way of thinking, when we have a light go out, we can just hang a flag in its place, since it can now be seen??
The load is unsafe and illegal. End of story.Blind Driver, old time, passingthru69 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes officer, I realize you cant see my brake, turn, running lights or license plate. But, it is ok, I have a permit.
SHC and skootertrashr6 Thank this. -
you did right by talking to driver- and telling him your concern, that you talked to his company and that you are going to call DOT. Up to him to go from there.
You did tell him that- didn't you?SHC Thanks this. -
lol, that all I can do. just the other day I hauled one hanging 7 feet off the back of my 48" foot spread from Maryland to tampa. ran a strobe on the back just like the permit required , I took it off when I stopped and put it on when I started to roll. if you folks had seen me parked I guess I would have been illegal.
fact is, most of you commenting here wont talk to the driver but wont hestitate to call, post pictures, without knowing the circumstances. you miss the point entirely of some of our posts.
shc, didn't you a while back call the cops to a guy who came back to his and had a few beers, when you had no idea of if he was going to sleep or going to drive??
I wonder if it was a landstar , mercer, Bennett driver etc. would the criticism be as harsh as it would be for this perceived crst l/p driver??????
some of you forget you are only a few months removed from your very first load ever, and some even your first flat load. but yet are safety and open deck experts.
I almost bet some of ya are the same ones who sit in their seat and watch someone struggle to back into a spot and never get out to offer help , just sit there and talk about how the dumb a cant drive.
and by the way it was a rotary dial phone, and next time some of you wonder what has happened to the trucking industry , look no further than this thread.
as some can tell this is a sore spot for me,Big_Perv93, russellkanning, Lone Ranger 13 and 14 others Thank this. -
theres no difference, you just don't have the kahonies.CL10473 Thanks this.

so where was he going with the load? and what should the oversize driver be getting paid? and was did this conversation take place before or after the stake pocket was torn off? why didn't you let them know it was a bad way to tow someone?SHC Thanks this. -
After, I thought it was hooked to the trailer

I made the suggestion that if a over height load gets stuck under a overpass, you let the air out of the tires to make it lower. So the driver tried to put air in the tires, but that was no good as only the front axle was holding most of the weight. It was worth a try
Then I went over to check things out. They chained the oversize directly to the trailer and broke the chain. I thought it would pull right out, but it ended up taking a wrecker. Wrecker driver snapped one of his cables. Wrecker driver really didn't know what he was doing, so I helped. He had no clue where to position the truck to pull out the trailer. It came out a lot harder then it got stuck.
Wrecker driver first was too close. He was pulling up more then pulling out. After suggesting he pull forward about 10' and move over so the boom was directly in front of the corner of the OD load, then pull. After three pulls and repositioning of the wrecker, it finally came out. -
how bad did the load get tore up?
-
The oversize got scratched out from the wreckers chain. It was already damaged on the bottom from some RR tracks in Oklahoma. CRST is only missing a stake pocket.Ano
Another CRST driver came by and we talked about the overhanging sheetmetal. He didn't like it either and expects someone to call him in
