Got a load I’m picking up right now from Kansas City to Colton Commifornia and I’m debating if going i40 is a better idea. I’ve been to i70 many times and I know it’s very taxing and many mountains. I40 has some but it isn’t as bad as i70.

Want some old timer wisdom if I should just go with i40 or stay on 70z

    40. But many will cut through Kansas and come out in Tucumcari as long as there’s not a significant winter storm affecting Kansas or Oklahoma panhandle. But if you have a fast truck and don’t mind Oklahoma tolls and can avoid Tulsa and OKC rush hour traffic then maybe via Joplin is better

40 is mostly fixed in AZ.

Exactly. Diagonal routes in the middle of the country are valuable.

From KC I would take I-35 to Wichita then head west on US-400. Catch US-54 in Mullinville, KS and follow that all the way to Tucumcari, NM to get on I-40. This is a route I ran frequently when I was based in LA and running round trips to the upper Midwest or Northeast. Especially in winter it avoids most of the snow (although a snowstorm just passed through the Panhandle and is crossing central Kansas right now). It's lower elevation that I-70, sucks less fuel, avoids the idiots in Denver and points west (snow bunnies), and avoids having to chain (except in rare circumstances).

Like everyone else say from Kansas City take I-35 to Emporia KS then take US-50 to Newton KS stay on US-50 to Hutchinson KS. Then take US-61 to Pratt KS. Then take US-54 to Mead KS and Liberal KS and just stay on US-54 to Tucumcari New Mexico. I-40 to California

Their is very old truck stop in Pratt KS it bad but has dirt parking lot. Pizza Hut in Meade KS has truck parking. The money you save avoiding Oklahoma toll will pay for Pizza Hut in Meade KS. LoL

    54 through Liberal... Pancake Blvd.
For some reason? I find that name funny.
Snow is melting off in KS, OK, now.

Don’t need to fool around with the snow bunnies up on I70 in the mountains. Idiot drivers.

Their is or was a nice truck stop in Newton KS. I stopped their because the one in Pratt is just a convenient store.
